Which .338..rum,nosler,sm,edge

My next build will be the 338 Snipetac. Adding 300 fps is significant but barrel life reduction will also be significant. One thing that's a fact is, there's no free lunches in this barrel wear thing. The more powder burned and velocity gained, the less barrel life in return. This rifle will be ONLY for targets at very long ranges. Currently I have no need for one but eventually I will.

I have your Huckleberry !!

Remington action, 24" carbon barrel, trigger tech , McMillan Game Hunter Edge fill. With the heavy Burris Xtr ii 5x 25 its
9.2 pounds all in ! It's just screaming for a Suppressor! 🤣🤣

I have owned several 338s over the years. 338 win, 340 wby, 338-378. The 340, and the 338-378 were both built on Ruger #1s. The Op stated he was hoping to build on a 700 action, and if that`s the case that would probably eliminate the LM, and the NM because of the bolt face. I have recently renewed my 338 love affair with a 338 Edge +P built on a donor Rem 700 in 300 RUM. I had Shawn True the action, and cut it for a 4" mag box, then screw on a 30" Hart 9 twist. This rifle has been easy to tune, and have taken it out to a mile with no problems. As far as the Op going with a factory 338 offering for ammo availability....... Well that`s a moot point in todays reality, as ANY factory ammo is like unicorn spit. Shawn called me a few days ago to let me know his Redding 338 Edge die shipment arrived if your looking for dies. Whidden also has them (I use Whidden) I have taken my load development to 3000 fps easily with a 300 Berger OTM, but have a very accurate load at 2960 so that`s where she stays. That being said I also love a good 30 cal too. My 300 PRC is a hoot to shoot at a mile as well. Hoping to get some steel set up out to 2k this summer too. Gotta love a 33! my .02

Planning on steel targets to 1200yds, hunting targets to 800ish, hoping to build on existing remington 700, repeater is a plus but not required. Weight goal is 10lbs bare gun 13lbs scoped with 14oz all titanium suppressor(already ordered waiting on stamp)
Yep waiting for that stamp too. I wondering about the 700 action and the dia of the bolt face and the base of the cartridge. I have looked at those calibers, and but haven't done any research as to what bolt face and length of action really works. With all the copper bullets coming out and the length of them, and getting them chambered.

If you don't have an 700 ultra mag receiver it will need to be modified slightly to feed the .338 RUM cartridge. To take full advantage of the .338 RUM, a Wyatt's box will let you seat the bullets out further so you can have more case capacity with the heavier bullets. Also ammo is harder to find. I have a .338 WM and a .338 RUM. Truth be known, I like the RUM more, but I won't shoot it with a muzzle brake. The WM recoil will also wear you but it isn't as brutal as the RUM. If you shoot it a lot, the WM barrel will last longer. Reloading components are hard to find right now, and WM cases are more available. I bought 50 RUM cases at a out of the way gun store last week and they were the only ones I have seen in years. You can reform them out of .300 RUM cases if you you have to but they are almost as hard to find as the .338's. I have enough of all three cases to last me for years. I only use them for hunting so I rarely shoot them more than a dozen times a year. The only exception is when my friends want to experience shooting them. BTW, I am building a .330 RUM switch barrel rifle on a M700 action.
