Which .338..rum,nosler,sm,edge

That's interesting. What's the capacity difference between the two?

I agree with above comment, I run a 4 inch Wyatts mag in all magnums.

I'd run an improved in the lapua or norma.
A bit of difference actually (10-12 grains). Availability means alot. I'd take the 300NMI over most other 300 magnums for overall Performance but in the 338 with 300s, no doubt the 338 LM improved is a much better performer. I have all the brass/powder I need. If I didn't and it was an issue, I'd probably do the same. Also if you absolutely want a mag fed platform for 300 grain bullets, the 338 NM is your huckleberry

Below is from QL extract courtesy of @steve smith
Quickload list them as follows.

.338-378 Weath. Mag. 137.5 gr H20
.338 Titan 123.5 gr
.338 Rem Ultra Mag 110 gr
.338 Lapua Mag 108 gr
.338 Norma Mag. 106 gr

.340 Weath. Mag. 100 gr

I went 338 RUM and haven't been disappointed at all. With my 30" barrel, I'm pushing a 285 ELDM to 2940 with H1000. 250 gr Berger should be scooting along pretty quick as well.

I don't have a norma mag to be able to measure case capacity , I do shoot a Lapua . my regular 338 Lapua , using Lapua brass has a water case capacity of 116 gr . I shoot 300 gr Berger bullets at 2939 FPS , and I get 13 reloading cycles on the brass . I usually get case separations at 15 , so I junk them at 13

edit to add ; I have a 30" bbl

I could be wrong but I doubt you'd get real close to 2800 with the 300NM with 300 grain bullets. Maybe 2750. It's a cartridge IMO designed for the 250s more than the 300s. My buddy's 300NM is an awesome cartridge for pushing the 245/250s. I think the Lapua case is ideal for the 300s. Problem I have with mine is, I can't run them the length I want in a magazine. They run over 4" in OAL. The 338 NM is a great cartridge don't get me wrong but it's definitely no 338 Lapua Magnum. It reminds me of the 33 Nosler. Doesn't do great with the 300s but really rocks the 250 class bullets.

I would have to go through all my pictures to check ..but I have had 11 or 12 338 's to date !! Long , Short , Heavy, standard barrel , steel barrel , carbon barrel.
Packing Rifle and Bench only !
Not one Pa Pua in the bunch .
All built with Remington Actions except one Lawton 7000 action 338 Edge .
I cant even beging to tell how many 300 Bergers 250 gr Bergers I have sent down range .. Paper targets, steel targets and Milk Jugs hate me !! Lol

Your request for 1200 yards is easy !
My last Bull Elk was at 1244 yards !
Smacking steel at 1000 , 1564 , 1760, 2056 yrds. & 3027 yards is my furthest to date !
Never pulled the press down on a single piece of ADG Brass yet all Remington .

You cant go wrong with either the 338 Rum or the 338 Edge !

Paul,
What's your COAL with your RUMs with 300s ? Curious if you can run them in magazine fed platforms ? My 338 LM improved is 4.055" with the 300 Berger's(far left pic). It's basically a single feed set up with optimum length for performance loads.

Never tryed to . All mine are single feed .
My data book is buried we just moved to a new place . I might have something on my phone . I will try to dig it up .
I bought the cfe-9 box for one of them but never got it installed .
I trust my loading so much I just run them single feed and i have one ready just in case .

Ya I'm running all my 300 loads single feed as well. Really no choice. Wish I'd have built mine as a single feed set up. Didn't do enough research before the build

Problem is that you will ring steel at 1200 yards easily with lots of 30 cals about as well as you will the 338s.
And chances are you wont ever be shooting at animals that far.
I personally wouldnt even consider building one not capable of sending the 300 grain bullets less than 3000 fps.
And in the real world, most of them wont.

I'm running my. 338 Norma improved through a DT and an MRAD, whole different platform than a hunting rifle.

Again depending on what bullets you want to run the Norma was designed around the 300 gr bullet. So it's optimized for that grain bullet over the Lapua.

Or get a big 30 cal and that will open a whole new can of worms on here.

Or to get really fun, .338 Titan by John Lazzeroni, I hunt exclusively with his Warbird
