I'm a .284 fan for sure. I've owned 3 RM's over the years. The HMR has performed the best on paper, but is way too heavy for me to carry on long treks while hunting. I have not owned a Tikka to date, but there is a huge fan base for Tikka rifles. The biggest issue I have run into is slower twist barrels on most of the factory rifles. If you want to shoot the longer bullets, this can limit your choices. Decided to change things up a bit and build a 280ai with an 8 twist. I'll be giving up about 100 fps, but using significantly less powder per round. This should help the shoulder on a light rifle.

Build one or seeking havak. If your willing to spend over 2k there's plenty of solid options but the havak is a great rifle and a great price. Can't really beat it in my opinion. They're gorgeous and they shoot like they should.

I was in this boat and opted to build one but that's because I wanted a few certain features that I needed to build to get. I ended up with an ag stock, bighorn origin action and proof barrel. I love it but still want a havak! Lol

The two Bergara I have had success with have been the B14 HMR in 6.5 Creed and 7mm Rem Mag, the 7RM was by the easiest to tune, easy hit .5 MOA, the Creed is accurate, but not as quick as the 7RM. The problem with the Creed is the Mag length is killing it, I have over .100 jump at mag length, the RM is not limited by the magazine.

I haven't had any problems with my Premier Highlander in .300WM. I am working up a load with 215's now - it was going great but I had to stop because my action screws and scope rail came lose (due to the lead sled and not the gun). Part of me wishes I went for the Havak, but at that point you might as well spend a little more and build one.

I was thinking the same thing when looking at the Fierce. The only issue is the"little more" is turning into a lot more.

A little more is probably close to double realistically though. At least that's what happened to me haha

Yeah I knew that is what would happen to me also haha.. Especially because I follow the Lane Precision Rifle page and droll over all his rifles.

I'm looking at 7mm Mag and at 7lbs. I wonder about the recoil. I suppose if there's a muzzle break that would help.

A good brake and recoil pad can solve a lot of issues.

Muzzle breaks are nice when your target shooting...with ear muffs...
I hunt without ear protection in thick ruff country....
Where the animals live.

And with the right brake your ears aren't really getting much punishment especially for a single shot.

For that I always have pretty much the same answer. Find a New Haven built Winchester Model 70 CRF (Classic)

Of course if you really want to go first Class build one on a pre 64 M70 Action!

I wonder about Tikka in larger caliber because their rifles are so light. Thoughts?

Don't know if you consider .308 larger, but. . . I have an older Tikka bull barrel cheap stock bolt that has been a good "up the tree don't worry about it" rifle from 15 years ago. Still scarred tack driving .8in hunter.
