Just bought my wife a bergara b14 HMR .308 For an upcoming elk hunt. I've went through the process of breaking in the barrel with just some cheap 308 loads. And want to makeup some good hunting loads. Does anybody have any recommendations or recipes that they would be willing to share? I really like the Nosler accubond, I used the 150 grain Sierra to break in the barrel and they seem to shoot pretty good. Thanks in advance Tim

45gr varget 175 berger. Absolutely brutal on elk. Pic is a 403 yard shot thru the shoulder with a big exit hole just behind the armpit on the opposite side.

I 2nd varget but every gun is different. Just load some up and see what she likes.

Thanks, I've used varget before in a past Remington 700 .308 and seemed to work pretty well, but didn't keep any data on it.
I will get some more varget, is that the best powder you've found for the .308? I'm going to assume a faster burn powder would be better than a slower due to the 20" barrel.

Varget seems to be a go to with most bullets in my .308.

Bullets? Elk are tough I'd be looking at the 152gr or 166gr Hammer Hunter bullets from hammer bullets

Best group, 5 shots @ 100yrds. 150gr serria game king bullets, 42.3 gr IMR4064
