7mm-08 the forgotten 6.5 Creed Killer?

SO, Horndy made a target bullet and then tried to morph it into a hunting bullet...with mixed success. Never heard a bad word about the 7mm-08 performance. 40% less powder for 9% less performance than the 7mm Rem Mag. Did the 7mm-08 get skipped over? Is the 7mm-08 the adult version of the 6.5 creed millennial offering?
One of the BEST rifles I've ever built was a 7-08

I like the 7's. Had the 7 Rem Mag but let her go when I went to 280AI. Now shoot a 284 Win after I passed the 280AI to my son. Working on building a 7mm-08 now as I'm preparing for the future! LOL
I have many other rifles in 30's and 6.5/284 and 6.5 Creedmoor.
Honestly...at my age... I reach for the Creedmoor sometimes but change my mind and grab the 284 Win most of the time. Just gives me that warm fuzzy feeling of confidence!
I do still like my 6.5/284 and 308 as well.
Confidence is a wonderful that you earn over time.

The 7mm-08 is a very good round and surely hurt sales of the .260 Remington. They are too close in my book and you can see what a difference marketing makes. I always thought of the 7mm-08 as a modern 7x57 (another great round) with updated components and pressures. Ammo manufactures don't have to worry about any antique or weak 7mm-08 actions, so they can load to modern performance levels.

The 7mm-08 will surprise you as, a serious, Elk or, Moose, Cartridge using, the 168 grain, H-VLD Berger's, W/ a near Max load of, StaBall !
My son is getting, 2,765 FPS out of his 22.4" Tikka with, this Load and at around 400 yards or so, IT, "catches up" to my .270 WSM for, Killing Power,.. WHO,.. KNEW ??
Yes, he has to "Dial" a few more Clicks on his Scope than, I do but, I was thoroughly impressed when, we shot, L R Steel Targets, together !
The recoil, is pretty stout, in his 7.5 Pound Rifle but, it's an, AMAZING, Hard hitting, Round with, THIS Load !
Plug 2,765 FPS and this Bullet ( .618 G-1 BC ), into Berger's "Calculator" to be, IMPRESSED with, the 500, 600, and 700 Yard Velocities and the "Retained, Energy" at, 5,500 ft. Elev. where we Hunt Elk. He shot, a Nice 5x6 Bull at 247 yards with, a 150 grain Horn ELD-X Bullet but, was NOT impressed with it's performance on that, Elk ( it took, a "Follow up" shot ) so he wanted, a New, more "Explosive" and heavier, Bullet.
I'd NEVER feel, under gunned with, the 7mm-08 IF, loaded,.. properly.
If you don't mind sharing what scope does He run?I just bought a tikka super light in 7mm-08 trying to keep it lightweight for a Mtn rifle 7.5 lbs is awesome!

I always thought 7-08 was a misfit cartridge, until I read more about it and then got one. Now it's all I use for PA whitetails and it kills them dead quickly. I use Barnes TTSX and H-414 from my 700 Mountain LSS. Proven deer killer, every time!

I do have a 6.5 in a Savage 12F but haven't shot it yet, but it's not gonna be a treestand gun. I was gonna use it for long range work/muley's out west, whenever I get around to it.

To be honest, I know very little about the 7-08's. But I am very versed in the CM's. I own every platform out there. For the guys that are having trouble at a mile with their PRC's... one of two things is happening. Their loads are garbage or they are simply not shooters. Any of my precision rifles will do a mile cold bore every time, especially on a steel buffalo. Six to one, half dozen to another. It just boils down to preference.
