Best 10mm 1911 frame handgun for hunting?

I like the Springfield Operator and it can be optioned with the slide milled for an RMR red dot. If you prefer a 1911 IMO this is the way to go. However, if you're open to options, the Springfield XDM OSP 10mm with the threaded barrel is a good choice, it's every bit as accurate, as my 1911s, at least mine is and I have the option to shoot suppressed. It carries well in a Kenai Gunfighter chest rig.

Double stack is not a 1911. Sure, marketing wants us to believe it is, but it isn't.
You say, I say-- it is what it is. Uses a double stack mag sure-- but has all the same internal parts as a 1911, has the same 1911 grip angle--- call it a 2011 or double stack 1911--- if we are gonna go OG, then it would have to be made by colt and in 45acp to be a 1911.

Op said he didn't like the fit of his glock so he's looking for a 1911-- to me that means same internal parts as a colt 1911 ( though there are different series and parts ) and grip angle so he might be looking at all options - single and double , I was just trying to help him out with his decision from my past ownership and opinion

That's what I went to also, xdm osp 10mm-- but it's double stack and doesn't share parts with a 1911-- but it does share the same basic grip angle, that's one of the reasons I like it. And it's lots lighter too. I run a comp on mine in the field

I shoot a Ruger SR1911 in 10mm. Had it for sale but pulled the listing. I've added a G20 but haven't had time to shoot it.
Have also had the EAA Witness compact in 10mm. It's gone -- was like shooting a 357 snubby.
The SR1911/10 has more recoil than my 1911's in 45ACP, more recoil than a G40 MOS Long Slide.
And, is one of the most accurate pistols I have, if not *the* most accurate.

I have an STI in 45acp and love it. But I thought they got out of the 1911 game a few years ago? Finding a used one in good condition might be hard but not impossible. That said, I would still go Colt Delta Elite. Or I would build one off a Caspian frame. I've done that a few times too and you get exactly the internals you want for much less than some of the high end production options, and accuracy is superior if your smith does a good job.
If I'm not mistaken they go by Stacatto now.

I hate that my dry sense of humor doesn't always come through in text. :)

Ah yes I remember seeing something about this now- thanks! Are they still made in Georgetown, TX? If so, that would obviously be my new recommendation as everything is better in Texas.

Wow ok cool thanks for all the feedback. I handled the 6" barrel Kimber super jagare today and did not care for it. But I did look at a Dan Wesson specialist and it was fantastic - tight fitting, excellent trigger and fit and finish.

But I also like the standard Kimber full size that I looked at.

I've looked at the double stack 10mms and
They're too clunky for me.

Haven't been able to get my hands on a Springfield to compare it yet but hope to soon. The TRP was discontinued but the Ronin looks very similar to what I want…only downside is having to wait to get my hands on one to make a decision.

I recently sold my Glock 10mm because it just didn't fit me very well. I want to get another 10mm for whitetail and hogs and put an rmr on it for 75 yards and in hunting here in Texas.

I've done some quick research online, but does anyone have any experience with a 1911 frame 10mm that they like? Here's a few models that I've read about and are considering (don't want to spend $3k+ on a setup - so no Nighthawks or high end Kimbers, Dan Wesson's etc.)

Kimber Custom TL II
Kimber KHX Custom
Springfield TRP Operator
Springfield Ronin
Remington R1 long slide

Thanks for the help!
I have the Springfield TRP with the factory-installed Trijicon RMR Long-slide (6 in. BBL). This is my first 1911 framed pistol. It is a tight-fitting handgun with very close tolerances. The RMR makes it a great 75-yard weapon and 100+ yards is very doable. I have shot the Kimber and there is no way I would give up the Springfield for the Kimber. Having said all that, the 1911 frame is not my style. I am looking for a SIG P220 10mm Legion. I am a SIG man and they fit my hand best of all.

Sorry, ButterBean!
