Best 10mm 1911 frame handgun for hunting?

But I did look at a Dan Wesson specialist and it was fantastic - tight fitting, excellent trigger and fit and finish.
The Dan Wesson is a much better gun than a Kimber. I have 6 10 MMs, 5 are 1911s and 1 revolver. The best is Ed Brown but not in your price range. For hunting I like my 6" Long Slide. It is amazingly accurate. I have 2 Colts and 2 I built on Rock River frames and 1 Ed Brown. The Colts are the least precise of the bunch.

Yep, back in the 70"s had a straight out a the arms room US Army .45ACP, pretty happy with it, same as the ol Man had in Korea in 50's. Since then, Kimber's, Rugers, Springfields, Colt 1911's are much all much better but, never had a problem or needD a picture tube to knock an apple off a piece a cordwood at 50yards, guess that's always been good enuff !!

I would buy a Rock Island Armory model from a Gallery of Guns dealer. GOG gives a lifetime warranty and the RIA pistols I have seen have all been built well, but if you have an issue you can get it replaced. I've been a home based FFL for over 10 years now and GOG has held up to their warranty every time I have had an issue with one I sold. The RIA pistols are inexpensive compared to many others. Use the saved money to buy ammo/reloading supplies.

I recently sold my Glock 10mm because it just didn't fit me very well. I want to get another 10mm for whitetail and hogs and put an rmr on it for 75 yards and in hunting here in Texas.

I've done some quick research online, but does anyone have any experience with a 1911 frame 10mm that they like? Here's a few models that I've read about and are considering (don't want to spend $3k+ on a setup - so no Nighthawks or high end Kimbers, Dan Wesson's etc.)

Kimber Custom TL II
Kimber KHX Custom
Springfield TRP Operator
Springfield Ronin
Remington R1 long slide

Thanks for the help!
I would go with a Springfield myself.
Or go with a Rock Island with the possibility of doing some upgrades. Shoot it as is at first though.

Thanks for posting! I'm a die hard 10mm fan. I had my Glocks grip reduced and that helped. Now, onto 10mm 1911's. If you have the cash, then Nighthawk. If you want quality at a reasonable price, opt for the Dan Wesson. I had the bobtail 10mm, and am kicking myself everyday for selling it. If you want a 1911 your way…then head to Reeder Custom Guns, they will build it YOUR way! I'm going to throw in a shameless non 1911 plug…bang for the buck….go Tanfoglio competition series, or even the high end EAA. Not a fan of Kimber or Soringfield. Kimber customer service is still crappy, and Springfields Rockwell hardness is still Filipino clay.

Not sure why you would want a single barrel .40 caliber, when could have a double barrel .45/.90 caliber handgun! Throw twice the lead twice as fast! 😂😂😂

I really like my Springfield XDM in 10mm and in 9mm both shoot lights out! Have both in 5" barrels and 15 or 17 rounds respectfully. Work smoothly and fit my paws. The 9 is twenty years old with little problems and the 10 is two. Hope this helps🤠🎯.

I have the Ruger SR1911 in 10mm. Planning to put a Holosun 507 on it. I haven't shot it much but its pretty slick. It seemed like a good cost option

My favorite high power sa pistols are a Coonan 357 magnum and Sig P220 10mm. I find both pistols easy to shoot and comparable for recoil. Of the two, I hunt with the Coonan. My custom 357 Mag load sends a 125 gr bullet @ 1200 fps with incredible accuracy at 100 yards. Granted, the 10mm offers higher energy, but the accuracy and penetration of the 38 caliber bullet offers more precise shot placement. My Desert Eagle is a shooter too, but much too bulky for field carry.
