Anybody using ATVs for hunting?

Absolutely… depending on the location condition of trail, woods or roads. Prefer my Polaris General SxS but also have a Yamaha Grizzly for places with less room. The windshield and doors on the General make cold weather traveling much more enjoyable.

I've used a Husqvarna (made by Club Car) UTV powered by a Kubota 3-cylinder 23 h.p. diesel engine since 2007. It's not as fast as newer models, but has unbelievable low end torque in really rough terrain and a 3-4 day range on six gallons of fuel. A set of Mattracks keeps it going in deep snow during winters. I wish it had a cab with heater, but those newer models cost many times what I paid for mine, so I dress for the occasion and go.

I agree on the cost of a UTV. I started with a 1993 mule and traded my way into a Polaris 900 crew Ranger for far less than new. I have had it for 3 years and don't regret the purchase at all. I can haul a boatload of protein feed in the off season and 5 hunters with me during the season. Had to add a 2" lift, as the factory ground clearance was minimal. Great rig…

I used to solo backpack hunt, but the first 5 miles was on a horse/ATV trail and it got difficult as I got older humping out a bunch of meat. So my ATV is used to get down the trail and backpack hunt from the disembarking spot. I've never used the ATV for actual scouting or hunting, but have used it to see where most guys/gals are going and have gone in another direction. Be aware that some states have ATV trails that do not allow anything over 52" in width on the trails so UTVs will be out of the question. I saw two out of state guys get arrested for chain sawing a post down in Colorado to get their UTVs on the trail, Game Wardens where waiting on them when they returned.

Guy brought a long travel turbo can am this last year. Made our trip up the Mtn about 15 min instead of an hour. Amazing. Eat up wash board and ft holes like nothing and keep right on going.

Hardly ever take a pickup in the pasture anymore since acquiring this 07 mule. And the grandkids enjoy it as well.

We love our Honda Pioneer. Does great on plains, thru the cacti and has no issues at elevation. Like others, I like having the roof, windshield and soft back window for dust control. The idea of the cost of these things being high, is somewhat valid... I found an F150 4x4 in excellent shape for $3300! That's <1/3 of the cost of our sxs.
