Easiest OEM Rifle to Build Off? Budget saver?

Savage hands down. Remington also since the Remage barrel set ups came out. Remington offers better stock options for sure. Not all cheap ones but more than savage does.
Savage or Remington for sure, I think like Ed and VLD on this one. Savage stock options are not that good anymore.......Somehow I just became a Savage Slut over the years and they have served me well so far. Sounds like you got a donor rifle to go to work on :)

How does she shoot? Is it due for a re-barrel?
Haven't gotten it yet but has low round count from Hoyt. Looking forward to making decision on what to do! Rebarrel to my dream fast twist .270 Win or try her out as 06AI. Oh these decisions!

If she shoots as-is, I'd wait until it is due for a re-barrel or make it a switch barrel set-up if you cannot wait. :)

IMO, action choice is not just the action, but trigger and bottom metal too.

Tikka has a pretty true action. That is almost custom level. Many folks don't true them and there are even some prefits available. The trigger is pretty close stock and there are a couple aftermarket available.

Remington 700 should be true'd. Actually, I'm not sure who would fit a barrel without. The extractor is suspect, but serviceable. The ejector is inconvenient. The action is rough. The actions are often out of time.

Winchester 70....generally great extraction and ejection. Safety is good design and execution. Action needs true'd or at least checked for true. Decent trigger and bottom metal choices.

Howa 1500 ....basically an improved Rem 700. Not sure on accuracy. Some trigger choice and bottom metal choice(I think)

.....or, you really need to consider a Bighorn action at $800-$900....rem 700 pattern, but a truly custom action.

For sure! I recently did a Remage on 300WSM that went perfect so that is definitely an option as well but then again a 06AI in 26" barrel may be interesting with 180 HH's.
I was thinking the 178 AH in the 06AI would be a great combo. 3050 FPS plus is what I seen on the absolute loading page with a 26" barrel 30-06 not the AI. Believe that was with H100V. So yours should run 3100 plus. Nothing wrong with that!

Nice!! I have 180HH coming that I was going to try as well. I have RL26 and H1000 so have really good 2 powders to try..I hope!

I tried RL26 with my 280AI, kept giving me fliers. Ended up settling on Viht N560. Just another possible option.

Got a Tikka T3x in 300 WM to try for my next build. I've always used 700s but they're gone right now.
Putting a WTO switch lug on it for easy barrel change. Love my switch lug on my std bolt face 700. Now I'll have one for both std and mag bolt faces.
Building a 6.5 Sherman Max. Will let ya'll know how it turns out.😋

Did the Viht 560 eliminate the flyers? RL 23 and 560 are almost identical in burn rates. I had flyers with 23 in my 280 AI. IMR 7828 ssc shoots better in my rifle. Have not tried Vit 560 because can not find. Thanks

Howa 1500. Basically a Remington 700, cheap as hell (cheaper than Savage's a lot of times) and most stock manufacturers that make stuff for Remington 700's, make stuff for howa 1500's.

Yes sir. The 560 eliminated the fliers. 560 is proving to be very consistent with good velocity. Only problem I have is a short throat. Planning to fix that soon.
