Do all rifle???

I would go with a 300 win mag. Plenty for what you listed and if you ever want to go after larger and or more dangerous, as in moose or grizzly bears, you still have enough gun. Even enough for the large african antelope.

270 win. Will handle everything from prairie dogs to bull moose. Easy to load and very forgiving. Components readily available? Well that pretty much eliminates every caliber. No matter what manufacturers you go with it will always feed nicely. I have shot bull elk with this cartridge out to 600 and one shot one kill.
Ditto, my go to rifle out of many for the past 50 years.

If you had to choose one rifle to hunt everything from antelope to elk, what would it be? This rifle must use components that are readily available. It must also be a caliber that is inherently accurate. No need to waste 600 rounds of 1000 round barrel life doing load development. I want to build a rifle but can't decide what to build.
.30-06 and .270 are never bad answers to the "all around" rifle question for North America. I went with a Rem 700 KS in .270 for my "do all" rifle.

Three years ago, on one of the other hunting forums, they had a thread "Which chambering have you killed the most game with?" Out of 200+ responses, 30-06 and 270 topped the list with more than 40% of the total responses. 308, 7-08, and 30-30 rounded out the top five.

Two years ago, similar thread "What chamberings have you used to kill elk?" Out of 400+ mentions, 30-06 and 270 again topped the list. However, this time 300WM, 7RM, and 338WM rounded out the top five.

I assume you reload since you commented on components... I would recommend one Of the Sherman Wildcats in 7mm. There is a very good group of guys on a Facebook forum. Very helpful and full of knowledge. There are some great gunsmiths on there as well. For a Short action I would build a 7SS, Medium action a 7max or 7 Sherman for a long action. Rich Sherman, developed these rounds and really has his act together . A great guy and very helpful. He has all head stamped ADG brass available. The 7SS can seat the 180's long and out of the powder column gaining 100 FPS over the 7 SAUM... which is another fine cartridge. Good luck with your selection and build!

300WSM or 7WSM, super accurate and either one and can run the light or heavy projectile. WSM ammo is always easy to find also, especially the 300WSM. Brass for the 300 WSM is always easily available and 30 cal projectiles are a dime a dozen. Also a short action. My son in law has one that we built and I'm so impressed with it I'm building one in 300 WSM now. It's just a great all purpose cartridge in my opinion, easy to load for as not a belted magnum and tons of load data out there.

Pretty simple, bolt action scoped 30-06. Ammo is everywhere, it will reliably kill anything on every continent except Africa and even there it will kill 95% of all game animals. It can even be pressed into carnitas duty in a pinch.

Carnitas duty? Ha, gotta love auto correct. Varmit.

where can I buy a tika t3 with scope and mounts for $700?
Not sure - but who said anything about scope and mounts? Figure $50 for a good set of rings - maybe a little more and decent hunting scopes can be had for $200 - all the way up to a couple thousand for long range afficianodos.

Warning! This thread is more than 4 years ago old.
It's likely that no further discussion is required, in which case we recommend starting a new thread. If however you feel your response is required you can still do so.
