Heavy Bolt Lift

It's a valid thought. I have overscrewed a 700 pin in the past out of curiosity. It's hard to imagine doing it by accident. It's pretty easy to see where it belongs. But I have also noted that some pins can be overturned more than others.

In fact, if I were the OP, I might just take a look at how it works with the pin turned out one full turn.

I don't have the rifle in front of me as I am at work, but what pin are you guys talking about. I'll try anything at this point.

The firing pin assembly. It screws into the back of the bolt. Try backing it out one full turn.

I'm not at all sure that will work as it may result in a pin that won't reach the primer. But it may also reduce the tension on the relaxed pin and may make it easier to cam when the bolt is opened. It's worth a try.

I also suggest that you get a firing pin removal tool to make all this stuff a lot easier to do. (see my note to Wheeler)

When I get home I'll take a picture of the firing assembly and have one you guys walk me through it because I'm still having trouble picturing it in my head. Thanks guys

Like Susquatch said, Reassemble bolt by screwing in your bolt shroud/ firing pin complete assembly until its where your found it to begin with before disassembly, then back it out one 360 degree turn from there. Try to cycle it. There should be less resistance in bolt lift.

I don't believe it does. But again, I'll take some pics when I get home and maybe we can figure this out.
If it is similar to a 700, Google 'how to remove the firing pin' on YouTube. I did and there are several videos on how to do it without a special tool. It works and I found out after blasting everything with carb cleaner that a dry bolt/firing pin assemble is stiff and I had to go back and lightly lube to lighten the action. Hope this helps.
