The Gentry is old school, but did what it advertised....I used to like the big boomers, then realized the biggest game I chased was elk.....now I don't even chase those......but if I have a rifle that hurts to shoot, it will be in the classifieds....yes, I've shot Barrett 50's, with and with out silencer, with brake....didn't "hurt" , but a box shells lasted a while.....there is no free lunch to get high velocity with heavy bullets....we all make our own choices....

Suppressor (Omega, or TBAC, etc)
Best muzzle option for dealing with concussive Concerns.

I Dislike Brakes !!!

If you must use a brake .....
Get one of these Type Brakes to hold ya over.
There are several on the market with similar design.

Also use Good quality ear & eye protection & recoil pad. Also a stocking cap. (don't laugh) These may also Help reduce concussive effects.

I shoot a braked .300 Weatherby. I have never experienced a headache from shooting. I wear a pair of ear plugs plus a good set of electronic headphones.

The noise is not what's giving me a headache... it's the concussion.

I reject it right there.
Anyone compare them on a pendulum?

I use APA, Beast Brake, and Muscle Brakes all work well.
I had a Thunderbeast brake that would ring your bell.

A brake with ports at 90 degrees is better on the concussion, but less "brake". I actually built a brake for my ar in a machine class at the local college...the instructor tried to talk me into angling the ports to the rear of the muzzle...when I told him I hunt with a buddy (hunting coyote's) that sits near me, and I didn't want to blast his ears and face, he said" the guys I hunt with don't have me in there back pocket"...last class I took with him as instructor. Point is, fun ain't supposed to hurt !

Try a linear break, 30 cal 5/8 x24 look at a kaw valley. They reduce recoil by 20,25% and all blast goes forward, less precusion than no threaded barrel and probably a little quieter to shooter cause every thing is redirected forward.

I'm running a vias brake on a 9 pound 30 nosler.

It's just enough recoil reduction for repeated load work from the bench without excessive noise or blowback. It's what I wanted and what my smith suggested. No issues with shooting prone as well with it.

I have installed hundreds of brakes of all kinds and styles but the VAIS would be my choice for your particular situation and what I run on my personal hunting rigs. I use many others including my own design for different applications as well.

When I had mine installed, years ago, it was because it was the "quiet" brake. In the last 15 years, brakes have come a long way....

I have a different question regarding muzzle brakes. Assuming no bore obstruction, (intrusion), would a poorly machined brake affect accuracy? I have a couple of cheapie brakes that I really like, but don't know if I should use them as the machining isn't perfect on the gas oulets and I don't know how much that might affect accuracy. (A bullet would pass through with a safe and even clearance though.)

I don't mind a linear on my ar or my 223 bolt gun but there's no way I could have any more fun shooting these 225-230 pills with a linear than having just the headache lol.

I wouldn't think the (slight) intrusions will affect accuracy, as long as the bullet leavers the brake untouched....might take a dowel rod and some 320 wet/dry and smooth the rough edges....
