Some good ideas guys, will check out the alumahyde, shine can be dulled with an ever so light rub with 4/0 steelwool. Sponge is another nice touch, I found marine epoxy rattle can paint but colors leave some to be desired so far and clear is gloss. Cheapest place I found that would shoot it was $225 . That's pricey for me, heck thats a couple bolts fluted with tactical bolt handles.

I hear ya, thats what I used some years back but wasn't durable for me. I'm looking at a little more expensive marine epoxy spray cans. Its looking like about $15. a can times 4, $60 is doable for a finish that lasts for years to me. The $225 for a custom job is crazy.....wouldn't consider that

I have two carbon fiber stocks that could use a fresh coat of paint. Its not due to wear or use at all, just poor color choice on one and some barrel channel work on the other. The maker used an epoxy coating that has been bulletproof for over a decade and I would like to duplicate that with new colors. I've done rattlecan paint jobs in the past and they don't resist scratches and wear that well. If anybody knows of a place that does good coatings I would appreciate it, the original maker of the stocks is backed up for months and you never know what real color and webbing style you will get. If all else fails will live with the current coatings but open to suggestions. Thanks

I called a few stock makers and asked them what they used. verdict was that they used some products that were only sold in 5 gal cans. I went around to all the local auto supply places and it was either $40 for a quart or $15 for a spray can. I've seen lots of sights and articles where auto body paints with a proper clear coat finish was professional looking and durable. I ended up going with an auto body texture paint in the spray can along with a spray can of clear coat. The stock was Kevlar so I used an epoxy primer also from a spray can. the epoxy primer is very durable.

I spray mine with truck bed liner. I can get it in a rattle can from most car parts stores. It's not shiny, it has a good grip and is easy to re-apply if you wear through it. The down side is you can any color you want as long as it's black.

I use cerakote C. It's pretty darned tough on stocks compared to krylon. It can easily be applied to stocks with an airbrush.

The plastic sleeve that comes on barrels works for a nice pattern and what I use mostly is plastic mesh from a landscape place. The bricks used for patios have a plastic sleeve between them. They are about 3 ft by 4ft wide and it's a heavy mesh. I'm sure you could get it for free. Only the top coat has to be real durable. I spray imron on mine from Dupont.

I use the epoxy paint "Duracoat" and yes it is very durable. Spray it out of the Preval sprayer $5 Home Depot or a small Hong Kong Freight spray gun ~$13 . Easy to mix and about an hour working time before it hardens.
