22-250 for deer?

Its a popular round in TX especially for culling does. Most do head shots or behind shoulder shots if big bone is hit you see why bigger bullets are needed. Yes it can kill deer but not best thing to use, its just that simple.

Oregon's current regs....

With a sturdy expanding bullet, and a skilled rifleman, it's overkill for shots closer than 250yds. Those that reload could always slow it down a bit, to reduce needless meat damage.

Although I am not a fan of light (50 to 57 Grain ) .22 caliber bullets for deer, I have to share this. My friend has a farm in West Virginia, In that past 7 or 8 years, one of his daughters has shot 2 bucks, with a Bolt action Ruger rifle , chambered in .223, scoped with a Leupold 3 x 9 . His nephew also shot his first deer with that same rifle. All three deer were killed with One shot , using Remington ammo, from Walmart. Only one Buck ran about 30 yards before falling to the ground. In all three cases the shots were between 80 and 100 yards. In all cases the rifle was on a Bi Pod in a ground blind , or on top of a big Hay bail. As much as I really don't like it, I cannot say a .22 cal. bullet in the 50 to 57 Grn weight range , wont cleanly take deer, at modest ranges under certain conditions.

22-250 great little varmint cartridge. For deer yes it will kill a deer but if the shot is off. You may never recover the deer. If your looking for a gun for young shooters I would recommend a .243 as the smallest caliber for deer
