Getting the itch again?

Had surgery on my shooting shoulder...
The only question I ask the dr was how soon can I shoot...

I can relate. I had a reverse total shoulder put in my shooting shoulder June '18. I still was able to take my antelope and deer that season. The month after I filled my tags I had a reverse total shoulder put in my other shoulder. I was 42 at the time. Planned my surgeries around hunting season. Sometimes a little down time is good to revitalize the soul. I have always found time away makes me more focused and excited to come back. Sitting in that recliner with my arm in a sling made me think of all unbelievable times I've had with the Z's out in the field. That time off gave my mind a chance to slow down and remember the real focus on why I hunt and shoot.

Mine was just grinding the ac joint bones so it wasn't major
Hope to shoot this weekend 308 suppressed should be good

I'm 56 and had surgery on December 2nd to repair a torn tendon on the cuff as well as a torn bicep tendon. I planned it around the time that deer season tapered off and before the end of the year so I could get everything on this year's deductible. It's my second go-round with rotator cuff repair on this shoulder. I've also had rotator cuff surgery on the other shoulder as well as a separate labrum repair on that shoulder (initial pain on the labrum repair was much worse than the rotator cuffs but recovery was much quicker).
With rotator cuff repair you really need to give it several months so that the tendons have a chance to re-strengthen at the attachment. All three of my rotator cuff repairs have been because of bone spurs. The one that I just had redone had the AC joint trimmed up when the initial repair was done in 2007. The end of the acromion grew back with a spur that impinged and eroded one of the rotator cuff tendons and gave me the familiar symptom of not being able to lift my arm above my shoulder without significant pain.
With just a little bone grinding, I would shoot whenever I was comfortable in moving my arm around without significant pain. I would say at least a couple of weeks. Good for you for having the AC joint cleaned up bf it made things worse.

ive been out the long range shooting game for a while. I really rejoined the group to look at selling my long range equipment but after reading through the articles in the forum I've kind of got the itch to start reloading and doing some Rock chucking. Have any of yal been out for a while then come back?
Nope! What got you out of it?

Well, long story short, my wife died and I needed to find something I could do on my own that would get me away from the house for long periods of time so I found adventure motorcycle travel. It was right up my alley and I love it. I'm still going to sale my long range stuff I'm sure. Just waxing nostalgic.

Wow...I'm very sorry to hear this. Wasn't expecting an answer like this, didn't mean to pry. Why don't you give them one last shot (pun intended). Maybe you will change your mind and rediscover the passion! Best of luck!

Sadly as we get older....we sit around talking about what ails us...when we used to talk about hunting and fishing.. or women

I'm at that age where I'd rather talk to women than about them and go hunting rather than talk about it.

Of course, we meet up after dark at the local outfitter/taxidermy shop to tell stories about both! :)

Sorry to hear it.

That's part of why I raise dogs. No matter how bad a day I have sitting down for a few minutes with the puppies works miracles.

Started collecting and reloading after my son was born....wanted make sure I wasnt putting a bomb in anyone's hand....bought him a 22 and 17hmr in the barracuda model chipmunk....put Leupold ultralites on them...perfect match..got him shooting bigger guns at about 9....killed elk and a deer that year along with a nutria.....good season for him.....reached 14/15...full of resentment at dad after divorce....he won't hunt or shoot with me...and i am close fo giving it all up...........

Thats a difficult age for youth, even in a perfect word, things like divorce only complicate things for them. I've seen it for years and they often try make things worse on both parents afterward due to feelings of resentment.

Hang in there and don't give up on him. They typically begin to mature towards their late teens, continue to show him love and pray for him. I will do the same for the both of you.

Like a wise man said get busy living or get busy dying

i believe, that was Captain Augustus McCrae to his good friend Captain Woodrow Call.

Man, this is a serious thread!
Rangerbear, I can't start to imagine what you must have gone through with your loss. I hope you can get back to doing what you enjoy.
All this talk of surgeries and failing parts, at 49 it's making me realize, I may be getting old LOL.

This just shows that even among rugged men, they are still caring and concerned for others.

Im just trying to get into this longrange thing. And have learned much from you gentlemen.

You all are in my prayers and I hope you have a better 2020.

Thanks, I am carrying on. I've found that adventure motorcycling fills the nitch for me at this stage of my life. And get busy living or get busy dying is a quote from the movie Shawshank redemption.
