Hello all,

Taking a look at the 110 Hunter in 300WM for an "over time" hunting build. It would be very basic, eventually change the barrel, lug and possibly stock. I was curious if there is any difference in models, or if all 110s are the same? Any experiences with this specific rifle? Is this a good action to build off of?

Thank you!

I have 2 110s and happy with both. I did basically the same thing, bought a 7mm and changed the stock the first year and shot well under Moa with accubonds. For this season I put on a barrel, had it blue printed and still a shooter. Only thing to watch is stocks are hard to come by.

I'm seeing that's there's not much out there for stocks. Kind of surprised by that.

I've put Bell & Carlsons on 2 Savage 110 builds. The most recent was a .280AI (used Savage 110 action purchased on this site, Criterion barrel/NSS recoil lug & nut, B&C stock). It shoots between .5 and .7 at 200 yards depending on what kind of day I'm having.

As I previously noted on your other post, Savage rifles' out of the box accuracy and their DIY friendliness is hard to beat. I have several builds using 110/111 LAs. The older 110s have a flat rear (scope mounting screw). "IF" your goal is still a 3.7"+ COAL, this is not the action for you unless you single feed it or modify the action.

Being left handed, I've been using Savage for my DIY builds. I prefer the older models with a top bolt release and Accu-trigger. Most of the time I keep the Savage stock but bed the recoil lug. I've had great accuracy with all of them. My last two builds were 35 Whelen and a 280AI.

I have a few savage rifles and like them very much, all shoot very well. All are factory except one that I rebarreled to 35 Whelen, that's all I did to it, works grate. Boyds make a lot of different stocksa nd they make them for savage rifles. To see what all they make you will need to look on their web site and may even want to order right from them.

I often wonder how many of those that bash savages have ever owned or even shot one?

I think about savages as the Chevy nova of rifles. No it's not a Chevelle nor was it intended to be. You can drive the heck out of them as is or you can invest a little over time and build a hot rod. Lots of options and easy to work on.
