5,000 fps coyote rifle?

I have a 22x6mm Remington and I get 4020 fps with a 55 grain BT. A buddy has a 243 and he is getting 4300 fps with a 6mm BT out of a 28" Krieger. The 22x6 barrel went south at about 600 rds. I don't think you're going to get 5000 fps outta anything, but you can try.

:...It takes a special barrel to shoot the .17 Incinerator. Kent Wilson of Ammo-One, who helped develop this extreme wildcat, explains: "The speeds are so great we had to use a custom 3-groove, polygonal-rifling 1:20″-twist barrel to keep the bullets from disintegrating on launch. The polygonal land/groove geometry reduces bullet engraving, which also helps keep the bullets in one piece. Also we must use solids — regular jacketed bullets can't handle these speeds"."
It would be worth a phone call to find out where he got that barrel. I can't find anyone who makes true polygonal rifling (as in HK); just Boots' 5R type.
I suspect the HK type rifling will help keep the bullet together.

The 22-250AI has broken the 5k barrier, but with the 30-35gr pills, and the 22 Cheetah II has been there with similar. But, I am not sure a 44gr is going to make the 5k, but I like how you think.

As a bullet swager myself, I have created varied light weight bullets to do this very thing, and I have had some success with decent accuracy. But not with anything over 40gr.

In the late 80's, I made a batch of .224 pills in 17gr using corn starch as the bullet core(nylon rod also works) and with shortened and thickened bullet jackets for more durability at high speed. I took those bullets and loaded them to 5,250fps in a 222 Rem with 24gr of Herc 2400. I could keep about 1-1/8 moa in a 24" 1/14 tw, and those bullets were completely frangible as desired. In testing with the rectangle plastic 1 quart oil bottles filled with water and set at 200 yds, the impacts were spectacular! After several shots, not a single piece of jacket ever penetrated the back of those plastic bottles, about 2" thick.

That was perfect for my intended purposes of shooting crows and pigeons around dairy farms and with zero ricochet potential.

I have seen 22-06's that never achieved vels higher than the 22 Cheetah, so there seems to be a limit where more powder just doesn't give anything useful with same weight bullets. However, things change, powders, bullets, etc, so enjoy this exploration into the 5k range. I did.

Blackhole Weaponry, also known as Columbia River Arms, makes custom barrels in both P3 and P5 rifling; P3 preferred. I have multiple of their barrels in .223 Wylde and they are very forgiving when it comes to what ammo you feed them. I just had a 300WM built using a P3 barrel - M24 contour at 23.5" long. It pushes a 230 grain Berger at 2750fps without concern, definitely my new favorite pet.

The problem with those little light bullets is that hey lose speed and energy quickly.

Granted, and there comes a distance when the slower but higher BC catches and passes the lower ones, but until then, what fun. In my higher altitudes of the Rockies, those fast but lower BC bullets act as the higher BC's at lower alts and maintain their vels longer.
