Im curious as to your impression of the ATN after using it. I ve looked at them and the features are awesome but reviews mixed as to reliablity
Well obviously I have not had a lot of time it it yet.
But I will say so far it has been great. The instruction manual is a bit challenging, but I found a good tutorial on you tube done by Fox Optics. The scope is not hard to operate, the instructions are writen like you already know most of the information.
Sight in was a almost too easy. I shot it 50 first, then moved out to 100 yards. Each step up in yardage only took one adjustment to get it in the bull.
First actual hunt was just looking at the feeder in the predawn darkness. I was totally washed out by the IR...didn't waste much time thinking about at the time because sun rise was only a few minutes away.
But that afternoon it hit me. The beam is adjustable? Yep it is and I had it wide open, so it was bouncing off everything. Which is why it"white out" the screen.
One thing to remember if you forget a step, what ever your trying will not work. So keep the book handy. After a you tube or two the instruction manual is alot easier so finding the missing step is much easier.
The higher magnifications are too grainy for me. It really no different than normal scopes. Normally need perfect conditions for it to work at max magnification. But 10x is very serviceable in a hunting situation.
I also took it out to 400yds and thumped the steel a couple times. Which is pretty cool for a 7.62x39 AR.

Yes I ordered it last week before I headed up to our hunting lease.
I put two SOS Hunters on lay-a-way. Paid the second one off last week too. Big pain to have to move the can between two rifles while in the stand. My dealer said they are getting the applications done in three months now, so I jumped in on my second one.

Yes they are ir. As Capt said you just don't buy it and go out with it. I played at the range and at my friends house (only place to shoot at night) for about 10 sessions. Then put a shot 1" over

Good ole AR10 chambered in 308 win. I have shots from 50-800+ yards where I hunt. Shot 3 last week at about 225 yards, one took a follow up shot. I don't shoot past 500 most of the time, but have killed 2 at that range with no problem. I shoot behind the shoulder or in the head depending on range. 168 Amax's or 168 Berger classic hunter. I will admit I don't care if they run off, but that never happens if I make a decent shot. Most of our hogs are under 250lbs.

300 Win Mag with 180gr in Barnes TSX
For max fun, I go to my .556 short barreled AR. With the proper optics you can shoot with both eyes open and take accurate follow up shots on running hogs. I just started hunting hogs with my .556 shooting Hornady Fullboar ammo. Killed 6 so far, and dropped them fast (no tracking).
Yesterday evening hunting with my 30-06 a large boar came through the swamp and dropped him in his tracks. with a Hornady 178 gr. ELD-X. I hunt public land in FL and suggest hunting with whatever you have.
The wound channel is from the 178 gr. ELD-X.

Bass Pro in Gainesville FL has carried it. They also carry it in 6.8 SPC...another good hog round.

If I still hunted is S Arkansas where it is thick with hogs, I think I would build an AR upper in 350 Legend.
I was thinking the same thing. The 350 Legend looks like a great AR hog killing platform.

I was looking at the 350 Legend too but Wilson's new "30 Ham'r" looks even better for hog shooting at distances that are hard to judge while looking through the thermals.
