Has anyone seen this in Varget before?

So I was reloading for a 7mm-08 last night and as I was measuring out the powder I saw some larger than normal grains of powder. Has anyone else seen this or have any thoughts as to what it is? The 4 grains are from normal Varget.

How much is in that? 1 kernel? Or mixed in sporadically?

I have found, on rare occasions, kernels of something that was not the same. I pick it out and continue on. Probably had a few that escaped detection over the last 30k+ rounds.

I just picked out the few odd ducts I saw and loaded away. Due to the grain size I wonder what type of powder it is.

Looks like H50BMG kernels to me.
Use a heck load of it.

RETUMBO is smaller in diameter than that.

I have seen it before, never worried about it, didn't worry too much when I dumped 5 300WM cases of H1000 into a 1lb bottle of H4831.
Just gave it a good shake before use. LOL.

Cheers.

I agree with "cohunt" with this one! I wouldn't shoot that stuff in my rifle at all. If it is contaminated with one grain of powder there, what else could be in the mix that you cannot see like maybe some smaller granules. I've been reloading for many, many years (55+) and have never experienced anything like this at all. At least call the manufacturer and get their spin on what you've found, they could have a bad run on that powder.

contact hodgdon immediately, from your pic, that looks like a different powder as the varget has a "golden" color, that does not look to be the same, looks like it was contaminated in production with a different powder
Agreed....looks dangerous as heck to me. I wouldn't fire a single shell....unless of course...you tie a string to the trigger and hide behind your TRUCK! And if you like your truck..park it 50 yards away.

Geeze this is weird. I saw what I thought was Ramshot TAC in my Varget a few weeks ago and fertilized the lawn with about 1,700 grains of it. I thought maybe I had the TAC in the chargemaster for the last reload session but had been using RL-22 for some other application according to my log. Ticked me off to trash that Varget
