I switched to Zeiss the V4 4-16x44 is awesome low light is spectacular.

My bad with double post poor internet here. I also wanted to add I've ran my turret out to 1175yards back to 200 yard zero tracking is superb.

I prefer zeiss and now my favorite is my new kahles ! Amazed at the clarity at 50 power at 600yds! Best glass I've seen !

I can't really tell the difference between my khales 1050 and my NF comp in glass clarity or my March scopes either for that matter. They all have things I like and don't like. However all the scopes are well over $1500.

I've known shooters that turned in a S&B's for warranty work and waited 6-9 months to get their scopes back... Turn time on a Leopold is much quicker and you can talk to them directly about your issue... Just try that with the euro glass companies....Just my 2 cents....

I will take my chances with a bender over a leupold any day of the week. Leupold has to have good customer service as they've put out some pretty crappy products and they need the customer service to stay in business. I'm done with leupold. I had nothing but problems with the mark4s I've had. Maybe they are better now but I don't care. I've wasted enough time on their crap already.

Nightforce 4-32 NX8 has to be in the conversation given the price point, durability, and glass quality. Can't wait to get my hands on one.

If you think I'm a supporter for Leupold, I'm not... But in the context of what the OP is asking for, the Leupold it is a viable option and the S&B is not...

BTW ...I also own a Kahles 10-50, a Swaro X5, two NX8's, an ATACR and a Mark 6...

Not saying S&B do not RARELY have to go back for service. But, I would bet that is one S&B for every 100+ Leupolds that have to go back. I like those odds.

I have owned only one Leupold in my life. A Vari-X III 6.5-20x50 LR. It had to go back. Used it occasionally for a few years afterwards, then sold it. I have many buddies that have sent Leupolds back for warranty. Several different models, and a couple have even been back more than once. Similar to Vortex. Awesome CS and warranty....because they need it. Most of those guys will never own another one.

I own four S&Bs. One bought new, 3 bought used. Never an issue with any of them. I know a bunch of guys that run them too. Never heard a single one of them have an issue. My life might not depend on my scopes, but if I am spending a 10+ day hunting, or even a 3 day hunt, I need to know my scope will be ready when the time comes.

The best warranty is one you never have to use. Heck, I have two Premiers that have no warranty that I trust more than any Leupold.

There are other brands out there that I have no personal knowledge of them needing to go back.

I find it hard to see that no one has mentioned anything about Vortex yet!!!!
I have several of them. The glass is very good-excellent. They have SFP's and FFP's. MRAD or MOA, different reticle. All track very well, consistently, and repeatable...NO issues!
I might think you could be interested I am FFP scope. Their prices beat out others at the same technical/capability level. And about the best, timely, no fault warranty in the business - run over one with a truck and they'll send you a replacement, no questions asked. And best value for the buck out there! EASY to find a large range, adjustable scope in FFP for under $1500, under $1000, AND even under $600, believe it or not (Diamondback Tactical)!!!! Can't go wrong, and great value! JMHO!!

Vortex is good for the money in their upper tier models. Their razor & gen 2 viper lines have good glass and accurate dialing, all models below those don't have the best reputations for accurate dialing, handling recoil on braked magnums, and glass quality is arguable. The OP should be looking at used optics to get the best performance for his dollar. Second hand top tier glass can be had for 1500-1800$ depending on the model. A SFP dialable scope with high mag range that's 100% on tracking, well there aren't many out there as in that category everyone runs FFP. I suggest the OP try a FFP scope with illumination to aid in picking up the reticle on low power. I picked up a 3-15 pst gen2 FFP moa reticle for 700$ on sale from euro optics. I consider this scope a good deal optically at that price. Compares very close to a Ares BTR which are now available for 400$ from various retailers. The new meopta optica6 scopes in the 3-18 SFP may be the best route to achieve the required wants here, but it's a brand new model which is just hitting the shelves. Meopta always produces a quality product and usually a bargain at their prices. The meostar s2 spotter may cost $2k but it hangs with 3500$ swaro and leica glass with ease even in a 6 year old design.

Hello Folks

Like the title indicates, I'm looking for a new scope to put on the 300 PRC that I'm putting together. I really like to idea of a highly variable scope. I've been eyeing the March, NF NX8, Zeiss V6, and even the Athlon scopes. I already have an ATACR on my HTI and it's amazing but kind of heavy, and a bit over my budget for this rifle.

Must haves: Good FOV at bottom power, MOA, SFP, clear and repeatable. Used is fine. I'd prefer to be in the $1500 range, but cheaper wouldn't hurt my feelings as long as it was good glass. 80 minutes of internal adjustment for elevation.

What do y'all recommend? Pros and cons of what I'm looking at?

For the money, ($1200) the Athlon ARES ETR serves me very well, hunting out to 700-800 yds+. Turrets are spot on. With nice audible "clicks". Very good glass. Reticle is a little busy.

Ares etr is great glass, I wish the floating dot was slightly bigger but other than that I really like mine. It's FFP however and I believe the OP is after a SFP optic. Perhaps he should look for a used gen 1 atacr in SFP then all his desires would be met cept their heavy as hell. They can be found for sub 2k second hand.

I concur on the floating dot. Not necessarily bigger, but more well defined would be a plus.

I have an ATACR on my Desert Tech HTI and I love it. That's why I'm really eyeing the NX8. Seems about perfect other than heavy. I've looked through an Athlon Ares and was less than impressed.

Im looking at March as well, they seem to be able to be had used for what I'm looking to spend, I'm just worried about the lack of US dealers. Maybe there's just too many options out there lol.
