I rebarreled a 6.5x284 to 280ai last year and all I can say is wish I had discovered that caliber sooner. Great projectile choices, moderate recoil and shoots lights out

My 25 is my "goto" hunting rifle. Love it. I handload it and it has never failed me. I shoot everything from 87 grain ballistic tips to 120 grain partitions.

I have some loads worked up with Retumbo and 10 thousandths off the lands. Model 700 Sendero. If I can ever get home from China, I'll see how she groups.. thanks for the reply

Mine is a sendero sfII - its been a really awesome gun for me.

Going factory go 25-06. Rebarreling or building go 6.5-06, no slower twist than 8.

All Good advice. I have a qualifier tho. If you expect velocities above 3000 with a PRC you may be disappointed. I have been working with one and at 59gr of h1000 I am only getting 2911. Hornady says 3100. I don't think my rifle will ever get to 3100 w/o over pressure. This is all with 140's. May start a new thread on this cause the lack of velocity by 200 really bothers me.

What barrel length are you running? I have a 24" brand new and the first 5 factory loaded 143's averaged 2932. copper creek loads with the same bullet were 3015 and the 140s were running 3095.

You must be running a short barrel. My 26in Proof is running right at 3100 fps with 59gr H1000 and the 143 ELDX. It jumped up about 40 fps after 253 rounds and has stabilized. I've shot out to 500 so I'm pretty sure the velocity is more or less right on. The average I'm using is 3097fps.

if it were me, I'd go with the 6.5PRC. It performs a bit better than the 6.5x284, and ammo isn't unreasonable.

It's a 6.5 PRC. I haven't shot it but it handles well. I didn't realize it came with a muzzle brake installed but no thread protector, besides that I'm impressed.

Looks like I will keep the Savage. Found a McMillan stock that should fit, a VX5 Hd to top it and will be buying a Proof Carbon Fiber barrel for it. Most likely 6.5/284. Hopefully will fall into the 7.5-8lb range.
