They announced at the 2019 Shot Show that they would be chambering the Fieldcraft in 280AI, though it's not yet showing on their website. Should be soon, I suspect.

Try to get to a 22" barrel, otherwise you will be giving up the velocity (and range) you will need for longer mountain shots.
Personally I am going from my 6.5 CM Browning X-Bolt Pro (22" barrel) to that very same rifle in 6.5 PRC with a 24" barrel. The bare 6.5 PRC rifle weighs 6 lbs. 3 oz. due to having a carbon fiber stock and extensive fluting on barrel and bolt.
That 24" barrel length is about my max length for hunting. I'll lose a bit of velocity from the "ballistically ideal" 26" barrel but hey, it's a hunting rifle.

BTW, jebel is right, the Barrett Fieldcraft is a great rifle for the money. Truly high quality.

Yep and best information says it's with a #2 contour 24" barrel. That will be the schizzle....
Could also buy a Christensen Ridgeline which is 6.3 lbs and checks a lot of boxes.

Since you want to build, you might want to take a look at the components used by Snowy Mountain Rifles in their Full Curl model, and those in Mesa Precision Arms' Carbon Hunter model. They both come in just under 6lbs. There are a ton of custom builders out there, but these are two that are reputable with strong reviews that fit your stated purpose and component guidelines.
280 rem or 284 win with a 22" barrel would about cover anything. These require long actions. A 7mm saum does everything those cases do but a lil better and actually runs quite well in a 22 or even 20" barrel from a short action. Buy a Tikka, rebarrel with a fluted #2, and put on a wildcat composites stock, you'll be around 5.6#

Is there any special reason why nobody mentions an approximate price for the already built rifles as suggested as opposed to making it up himself?? I would think he might want to take this into account.....THANKS, BUD

Since you want to build with a Titanium action look at the medium length actions. Lone Peak makes them in the fuzion ti. 6.5 x284 will do what you want up to 500 yards and more.

surprised no one said it yet..... 25 creedmoor. better ballistics than any 6.5 mentioned, flat shooting, low recoil, easy to find lots of excellent brass. easy to load for. fits great in a light TI short action. the 131gr Blackjack is your friend. it'll kill deer and elk inside 500 all day long and performs excellent past 1000yds. I've got one, and it's great.
