Range Pet Peeves!

Yes I do. At least they are glad to see me when I get home and cause minimal grief. If people were like dogs the world would be a better place.....except for the butt sniffing
Totally off subject warning! Mark Twain said something to the effect : If you see a dog that is lost, and you take him in, feed him, give him a place by the fire, and are kind to him, he will not bite you. This is the chief difference between a dog and a man.

And then there are the guys who are wearing ear protection and are talking VERY loudly to their buddy at the adjacent bench, disrupting the other shooters. Or those spotting for their buddy and insists on yelling out, "IMPACT!!!". BTW, I hate the term "impact" Why can't spotters just say, "hit"? And while you're at it, do it quietly.

The shooters who won't pick up their brass. Steel case shooters are the worst.

Shooters who think that it's OK to set-up their equipment during a range break and others are downrange. Also those who think that it's OK to handle anything else on their bench except their firearm during a range break.

Shooters who don't leave their firearm in a safe condition for a range break (unloaded, action open and pointed downrange).

Range attendees who, after consuming a drink with sugar in it, puts the empty(?) can in the trash can. And others wonder why there are so many bees swarming the trash can. Leave the sugar drinks at home.

So there.
The ranges I have used are all strict about staying away from the bench during the target change, but the rule is routinely violated, even occasionally by experienced shooters who are day-dreaming about their load or whatever. The only thing I can think of is for the other shooters to immediately remind them. The range master cannot see everyone at the same time. See something, say something.
Someday, when the $ are there, they should have electric gates that shut off access to the bench during the target change. (Some would still crawl under. They forgot their roll of target tape!)

Another suggestion/goal I know some will find too radical:
Range Masters and Line Monitors should be CCW qualified and armed. There have been too many (more than one) incidents of whack-jobs, religious or otherwise, going to the range because it's a good place to pick up someone else's gun and commit suicide or homicide.

Great Zeus! Where are you shooting?!

The only story I have heard of that is Chris Kyle.

I shoot in northern California, but these incidents happened back east at different ranges. I don't have the dates, places, but they were mentioned on national news websites.
