Is the .30-378 still the king? With all these new cartridges, is there even a still a place for the monster Roy, with its hen teeth brass, and disposable barrels?

If you made a 30 cal with 8mm Rem Mag brass, wouldnt that just be an H&H?

I did find out today, that my 30-375 Ruger wildcat (in 2009)is now called the .300 PRC. I was thinking the 30 Nosler was the same, but it uses Jeffery brass, which has a .550" body, and I believe the 375 Ruger brass is .532" ? I never got to test my own wildcat. So 200 grain in both, how does the PRC do VS the ole Winnie?

I have a huge interest in the .300 Norma Mag, any of you guys using one?

You are correct on the prc, its .532". One of its assets is no rebated rim like the rum and no belt like the Winnie. i first wildcatted the 375 about nine years ago and called it the 30/375 S. I. for Sherman improved. it has low body taper, 40 degree shoulder, and a long neck. Very much like the new 300 PRC from Hornady except for the shoulder. My new more improved design, the 30 S. M., has even less body taper and different throating. It will run the 230 Berger very comfortably at 3050' with a 28" barrel at a 3.707" coal. The std 300 prc round can be fire formed in my chamber with great accuracy and the new prc brass is tougher than the old 375 was. Lots of good 30's out there!

.300RUM or .300NM
I also think that the 300 NM is a well designed factory case. 30 Nosler is good but could use a little more neck.
I got tired of my rum because I felt that the gains in velocity weren't enough to compensate for things I thought were negatives. Hard on barrels, extra recoil, poor brass (at the time) Barrel length was more important, etc. That said, I killed some elk at some pretty good distances with it

I was tinkering with my wildcat in 2009, after I seen the 338 Campfire. I didnt get mine finished. Did yours work as good as my Quickload estimates showed? 200 grain bullet at an honest 3000-3075 fps from a 24" barrel?

my current version runs a 230 Hy. comfortably at 3050' with a 28" and I would guess you lose about 30'/inch of barrel. it will max a 230 at 3100' so I would think a 200 would turn up some pretty good numbers.

That is amazing man! Wish I had finished mine, but exwife, divorce, blahhh

What is case capacity like? If you filled both up with the same thing, how much difference vs the Win Mag?

mine holds 98.4 and has some serious throating, but IMO, the case design has something to do with it too

I was just reading about that. They spec the PRC chamber for long bullets so the extra length isn't down in the powder column. That's the reason for the Magnum length action.

.300 BSM Does 3400fps with a 230SMK and a 32" barrel.

The .300 HCM will do it a little faster.
No offense, but I see a 32" barrel like I would guys that heated and rolled shotgun barrels down smaller to cheat at ham/Turkey shoots. Seems like at that point you might as well mount it to a vehicle with that yard stick barrel haha
