Looking for some help/opinion 28 nosler hammer bullets

Ok guys. I have a 28 Nosler with 1:9 twist 26" barrel. I was having some issues finding a consistently accurate load with Berger bullets so I ordered some Hammer Bullets. The only long range buellet they have for 1:9 is the 143 grain so that is what I got and they do shoot AMAZINGLY WELL! Like under 1/2 moa at 200 yards out of my rifle! That is where I struggle. I bought a 28 Nosler to shoot heavy bullets, well heavy to me, like the 175 and 180 grainers. I shoot a 143 grain bullet out of my little 6.5 creedmoor. I really want to shoot heavier than 143 in my 28 Nosler. I see they have 155 grain that says 1:8.75. Has anyone tried those out of a 1:9? I wondering with the volocity of the 28 if it will be ok?

Another question/ concern. The 28 Nosler is a long range hunting rifle. I don't see the little 143 grain bullet maintaining much energy at say 1000 yards. I can't find the G1 bc for the hammer hunter bullets and I don't know how to use G7 to calculate a ballistic chart. My best load with the 143's is right at 3400 ft/sec. can someone figure out the bullet drop, velocity, and energy at 1000 yards for me please. I'm over 1200 ft/lb and 1800 ft/sec with my 175 Berger elite hunters but they don't group great.

In summary,

1. Has anyone shot the 155 Hammer Hunters in a 1:9 28 Nosler? Was it stable at long range?

2. How do I figure a ballistic table for the hammer hunter bullets since they don't publish G1 bc? Specifically the 143 and 155.

3. Would it be foolish to shoot an elk at 1000 yards with the 143 hammer hunter out of a 28 Nosler?

I greatly appreciate any info/ advice.

Yes he is! He helped me with the load development with the 143 and it was spot on! I'm planning to call him tomorrow, but wanted to get some other folks opinions too. I know there are some very knowledgeable folks on here.

It's a Christensen arms Ridgeline. Load development went well with the 143 hammers. I see pressure signs at 3500'/s so I backed down to 3400. The ladder test Steve had me do at 200 yards all shots were under 1moa. And when I picked a couple velocity nodes to load multiple roads of my SD's were single digit and groups less than 1/2 moa.

On the Berger Elite Hunters I thought everything was going ok too. I had a good load that was usually at or a little under 1 moa but when i took the magnetospeed speed off it went to crap. Like 2moa. SD on this load is around 15 so still not bad. I have never had this problem before with the magnetospeed on this rifle or any other rifle with a heavy contour barrel. The 143 hammers were simple to load for I just want a heavier bullet for a 28 Nosler.

I just picked up the CA Mesa Longrange 28Nosler. And was looking at trying the 143 hammers. But also shoot the 180 eldm for longrange hunting. What powder did yoy use for the 143 hammers?

Good luck. I have an 8tw. I have shot the 180 eldm, 195 roll and the 177 hammers.

The 180 eldm should stabilize in your rifle and tunes easy IMHO. H1000 shot well for the 177 and 180. I used returning for the 195s.

Did you try the 175 eldx? If so did your rifle also shoot them good? I tried the 175 eldx but they were not consistent in my rifle. One day they would be great the next day all over the place. After doing some research a lot of people have had the same problem. Not sure if the eldm has the same issue.

No but I have heard the eldm tune easier than eldx.

I personally believe maybe the hornady bullets aren't as consistent. Seems like one day my 6.5 with 140eldm shoot great then the next time not as good. And maybe it was just me being inconsistent too but seems like Berger's are more consistent.

I can punch in better numbers later (this data was already in my phone) , but at 3380fps here is the strelok drop chart at "max range" for the hh bullets-- steve says keep 1800fps or better for hunting

1st row is yardage, 2nd is speed, 3rdd is energy, 4th is drop in moa, 5th is wind in moa for a 10nph wind-- mind you this is at 6500msl but the bullet would get you to 1100- 1200 yards for hunting conditions and still expand.

Yup, like Steve says, speed kills

You may loose just a bit if you are at sea level but its gonna be close

If you want to stay abovec1500 ft lbs. It gets you out near 800, it it still retains 1000ft lbs to around 1000 yards
