Howdy !
My thoughts are similar to those expressed by Varminator.
I wildcatted .35 Remington down to .224" cal back in the late -70's, for use as the ideal case capacity for shooting .224" cal 55gr varmint bullets from a 24" 1-14 barrel.
It was good on groundhogs out to 510yd ( my longest kill w/ that barrel ).
.22-35 Rem was also superb when chambered in a 28" 1-8 barrel, and shooting
groundhogs w/ 75"A"-Max . This set-up had valid 1,000yd dual-role' varmint/target capability.
.22-35 Rem case capacity is between that of a stock .22-250, and a .22-250AI.
While 6mm Remington has @55gr H2O case capacity and .243Win @ 54gr capacity,
there's not a huge number of shooters that use the .224" cal wildcat iterations of those cases.
And, one doesn't see a whole bunch of shooters extolling the virtues of the .223WSSM, which has 52gr case capacity.
IMHO - the current popularity and even increase in number of .22-47L, .22XC, and notional .22 Creedmoor wildcats points to the useful performance that can be obtained
from .224" cal and 6mm cal cases in the neighborhood of 49 - 51gr H2O capacity.
