Rebarel 7mmRUM to what?

Good evening fellas. I am new to the forum and so far, I have gathered a lot of useful info. I am getting ready to rebarrel my Remington 700 LSS in a 7mm RUM, but I am having trouble deciding what caliber to go with. I currently have a 25-06 and a 6.5CM for medium game to 500-600yds. I would use the LSS for long range and elk. The stock is bedded and the factory trigger worked to a crisp 3lbs. I dont currently reload, but I am planning to in the near future. If you were in my shoes, what would you rebarrel to and why? Thanks!

Rebarrel to a 28" 1:8 twist .28 Nosler. It's already setup perfectly for it since the Nosler cases are also designed off the .404 Jeffery (same as the RUM).

Be prepared to get inundated. IIWY, I would stay with 7MM RUM with 1:8" twist or faster and shoot the 195 Bergers, but will lean more towards .300 RUM with 1:8" or faster and shoot the 230 Berger/230 and 240 Sierras, or .338 RUM with 1:9" and shoot the 300 Bergers for when you are ready to reload. Why? It boils down to personal preference (I prefer the .30 cals and larger for long range elk hunting) and intended purpose. It might help if you share your thoughts as to why you are having trouble what caliber/chambering to go with.

.300 RUM would be an excellent choice starting with what you have and with your goal in mind.

You have a world of possibilities to choose from. The 28, 30, or 33 Nosler would all be great. As would be the 7mm rum, .300 rum, or .338 rum. I personally like the the .308 and .338 calibers better than the .284, but all three will do what you're asking.

The reason why I am having trouble deciding, is because of all the options available. I wouldn't mind either a 7mm or .30 cal. and I dont want to go any bigger than a .30 cal. I first thought of a 7RM or 300 WM but after reading this forum about other chamberings, now I cant decide. I still have about a year before I start putting this rifle together and want to get my ducks in a row before I start.

Id be ordering a barrel since that takes the longest.
For me id be ordering a 30 cal with a 9 twist or even a 10, because if I wanted to shoot the heavys, it would be in 338.

For long range elk .300 RUM with 215 or 230 Bergers. Since your action is already set up for a RUM cartridge.

A 9 twist will do anything you want in 30 cal, even berger backed off the twist rate recommendation on the 30 cal heavies.

Only problem with the 300 Rum if your a reloader is you really need a 4" wyatt's box to get the heavies out past the neck shoulder junction, that's were the 30 Nosler shines you dont need the extend mag box.

I'd do a 33 Nosler. Enough beans, but not the large face of the Lapua/Norma. That or an Edge or 338 RUM...

I would look at any of the Nosler cartridges, If you want to stay with the 7mm go 28 Nosler, its an awesome Cartridge, I have one built on a Remington 700 Action and 26" benchmark barrel and it seems to shoot everything well, 175gr ABLR exceptionally well.
