6mm _________ you fill in the blank

As long as we are talking about 6mm made from other cases, here is one that works from a different prospective. No necking down but there will be fireforming. Use a 6 BR reamer cutting deeper to headspace as a 243. You end up with a 6 BR neck which requires turning, a 30 degree shoulder angle and less body taper. Someone beat me to it. It is called the 6mm BRK or the "long 6 BR". It can use the excellent Lapua brass. It was featured on Accurate shooter long ago. Getting 3450 fps with a 95 gr VLD with a 28.5" barrel. Author says says "he can push the 105s faster, but 3220-3240 fps seems to be the sweet spot."

Lately there are many newer cases using a 30 degree shoulder angle. In addition the thinner neck wall requires turning which might lend itself to more precise light neck tension for precision shooting.

Around 8 years ago I did the same thing with a 30 BR reamer going deep enough to headspace as a 308 win. It has been fun to use and delivers excellent accuracy. I did it because I had the 30 BR reamer and was too cheap to buy a 308 reamer.

Just one more 6mm wildcat to add to the list. If I didn't have a 6mm-284 I would give that 6mm BR-K a try.

I have a 6WSM and the last time I shot it was with Retumbo and 105 Amax's at 3600fps. It shot pretty well and I'm sure there is more speed there with R-33 or N-570, maybe even RL50 or similar. The barrel is 1.25" straight for 28" so it's not overly portable and doesn't get shot much. The super hot rods are fun but can be frustrating keeping the barrel free of hard carbon deposits. I also have a 30-378 Imp that would shoot 150's over 4000fps and 210's 3600fps. I developed a carbon ring in the barrel and it was near impossible to get out.

Been out of here for a while.
6mm for me is still the 6MM Remington. May seem fairly tame by some standards but this cartridge has been working for me since 1972.
Currently I am loading for a Mauser actioned rifle I picked up. Clunky long action but better for the newer longer 108g bullets.

The parent case for the 6mm Rem. is the 7x57 Mauser so the action you have is custom made to handle that case (6mm Rem). Modern M98 variations are standardized on the '06 cartridge length.

The are a ton of variations which use the 6mm Rem case, not the least of which is the Ackley Improved version. GAP made a slight deviation by using a 32 degree shoulder and improving the case shape, naming it the Crusader. It's an excellent variation when the 40 degree shoulder is just a pinch too much...;):D

Yep 6AI, 105 Hybrids at 3350 in a savage short action... Still have 300 pc of Norma 7×57 Mauser brass for the next couple of barrels.

Yes it has a custom chambered heavy barreled 98 action. It does have the groove and thumb cut for stripper clip. I won a bid on Gunbroker at $600 for it. The trigger is Timney and the action is glass bedded in a nice wood stock. Supposed to be a 9twist ?? barrel.
Actually the parent 7x57 and the 257 Roberts and 6mm Rem are all the same case just necked to .257 and .243. I have a sweet .257 Bob and am on the lookout for a 7x57.

I have a Winchester model 70 sa .243 and bought a lilja 6mm 1:9 twist 3 grove 26 inch barrel rem heavy varmint contour and I was going to just go back with .243 win. But with all the other 6mm cartridge out there what do yal think I should go with. I will be primarily a medium size game sub 500 yards rifle and out to 1200 on steal. I live in arkansas at low altitude and barometric pressure is 29.6 avg. Any thoughts would be nice than you.

You probably should start a new thread all your own since this will generate a lot of suggestions.

All of the major bullet makers have come up with some real interesting new weights and bullet styles in 6mm. Along with some of the newer powders a feller could spend a lot of time (and money) playing around with this caliber.

How many high bc hunting bullets over 100grs are there?

The last time I checked the 110 Sierra and 105 RDF were the highest , I think they're higher than 115 Berger.??? Though not that far behind

Berger Target Hybrids have worked very well for me.
