300 win mag subsonic

Hello all
i have a really nice load for my remington 700 longrange with a 168 gr barnes tsx bullet on top of 85,5 gr hodgon retumbo . but with begin of next year we will be allowed to use silencers for Hunting . this would be helpfull in my Country because i m often close to houses .
so my Question is does somebody know a good Hunting load for a 300 win mag subsonic ? i would prefer to use barnes bullets . i know it isn t really what this caliber is thinked for . but it also would cost me tons of Money to buy new rilfe and scope
otherwise i thinked bout get me an 300wsm wich would be more easy to handle for this , but this is much more Money .

Umm... why in the world would you try to make a 300wm subsonic?
300 blackout is designed to be subsonic. Google it, look at the billet weight and powder charge vs the 168 in your 300wm
Lots of people still use a suppressor with non subsonic rounds

You could use subsonic, but the 300 wm at 1050 with a 220grain bullet is still the same as a 300wsm, 308w, or 300bo subsonic--- subsonic means less than the speed of sound so you'll be shooting heavy bullets no faster than 1050-1100fps.

The energy is considerably less in subsonic and therefore should be limited to about 100yards or less for ethical kills. Also you either have to go with a non expanding bullet that is designed to flip flop, or find a super expensive subsonic expanding bullet that works below the speed of sound.

It can be accomplished but it's silly in such a powerful rifle. As others said, you can still use supersonic ammo through a suppressor to lessen the muzzle blast but it's still quite loud. Also make sure you get a can rated for 300wm if you are going to shoot supers through it.

Hello of course I know a lots of cartridges would fit better for subsonic rounds . But it would be good to do it on one rifle . An additional rifle and scope would cost me around 3000 euro if I go with the cheaper stuff . That's the reason . Even a Remington 700 sbs costs me here minimum around 1500 euros

If you can get one of these rifles where you're at... This is my recommendation. It's already threaded for a suppressor.

If you load your own ammo, .300 BLK can be VERY cheap to shoot. It only requires 9-10 grains of H110 powder, or you can use the new Hodgdon CFE-BLK powder.

you are getting to a pretty big cartridge to try to loaf that slow... I doubt you'll even get a good case seal and could damage your rifle...

Yep. I wouldn't even attempt it in a .300 WM, personally. The .308 Win is about the largest case size I would make subsonic loads for. I make .308 Win subs for a buddy of mine using Hodgdon Trail Boss powder and Nosler 168 Custom Comps.

Barnes bullets need to be going fast or there is no point in using them, they won't expand as designed at lower velocities.

He might be wanting a non expanding bullet that tumbles, they would work for that but much more expensive than other non expanding options.

Personally in 308 caliber with 1:12 or 1:11 twist I use the 200 or 220gr hornady rn bullets with small amounts of pistol powder or trail boss powder..others prefer something like the 220 eldm if you have a 1:10 or better , or he could buy a low speed expanding monolithic bullet designed for subsonic but they are pricey

Engel ballistic research sells loaded 220gr rn and 175 expanding subs for 30wm, but not sure he could order it from where he is at... also, atomic ammunition sells 175 smk subs , and custom reloads of Dallas sells 180gr sp subs--- they are out there but rare

I saw a post from overseas where a guy was using 12gr of n32c tinstar powder with magnum primers with 180-200 gr bullets for subsonic 300wm...not my load data so check it and load with caution

Googled it a bit and found some info for the op-- surefire socom300sps claims to have the quietest 308 caliber suppressor on the maarket.
300bo subsonic was recorded at 120db, 300wm subsonic was recorded at 137db, 300wm supersonic was around 145db and 300wm un-suppressed with a brake was 170+db

Thunderbeast is way quieter than that from their YouTube videos pretty sure I saw 133 with win mag.

Anyway. You can probably do it with trail boss, there are a few trailboss subsonic 30-06 loads out there.
If you have a 308/300 blackout it would be easier to start there

Shooting bullets that tumble and aren't stable is a bad idea when using a suppressor. It can cause a baffle strike.

Hunting subsonic with the Barnes will pin hole game like you shot it with field point from arrow. If your going to effectively take game using a sub sonic .308 bullet it's best to use bullets that are designed for that purpose. Such as the makers expanding subsonic bullets or the Leigh's.

I've never loaded for a subsonic win mag but I'm sure there are alot of problems that could arise and you might have to use some type of filler.

cant be that big of a deal if there is loaded ammo for sale out there-- just because a bullet tumbles on impact doesn't mean you'll have a baffle strike--- full metal jacket 62 grain green tip bullets tumble on impact when shot through a suppressor on my 1:8 twist 223-- bullet is very stable in that twist, but it still tumbles on impact in soft media--2 different things we are talking about when talking about bullet/twist rate stability, and bullet tumble on impact---lots of guys shoot the 208 a-max out of the 300BO, they are stable in the BO twist rates, but tumble on impact in soft media---I'm not sure a Barnes bullet would pencil, it may tumble due to its length, he would have to try it to find out; but one thing is for sure- it would not expand.

OP stated he is from another country (Austria), so it may be hard for him to find loaded ammo or even the same powders or bullets we can get--so I think that might be the biggest challenge for him
