Tragic bear attack in Wyoming

When I go elk hunting, I know the odds of me seeing an elk are not that great. If I want to see an elk, all I have to do is go to Rocky Mountain National Park. In fact, sometimes I will see them in the town of Estes Park. Sometimes they are in people's front yards or just walking across the streets with a long line of cars full of tourists watching and taking pictures. They do not care about the people around them. That is an area where they can't be hunted and they know it. I'm not an expert in bear psychology, but it's hard to imagine bear are incapable of noticing the same thing.

exactly! Not sure how you define that but I was told earlier that it is not learned respect. So if someone can give me the proper terminology, that would be great, so I don't sound like a dummy anymore.

.....We kept a pistol in the tent and had our hunting rifles in the day. Fact is if a bear wants you in your tent, you are toast.......Steve

Todays reporting indicates spray was used.....I can't imagine using it in a tent. Sometimes the best you can do is keep things from becoming someone else's problem!

The grizzly is past carrying capacity in much of it's range

I agree with the above. Wife and I were in Yellowstone in May 2015. We saw more grizzly bears AND wolves than deer. We only saw two deer all week and they were the most nervous critters I have ever seen in national park. They would jump outta their skin at the rustling of a leaf.

Seems a guide got hurt pretty bad by a grizzly last year too. See link below. The article also talks about other bear incidents the last few years in the area. You guys who hunt that area are way braver than me.

The idea of protecting and encouraging the re population of apex predators
With the number of humans in a 2018 world is just DUMB!
My daughter was out for a run late after work and a young 85 # Cougar tried to get
her Pitbull Well she shot it in the face with her Sig 229 in .357 Sig Dropped it!
This was while she was stationed at the Naval Air Station Widbey Island
