Anyone own a 7mm 300 Win Mag?

I hope to try them soon. I am also interested in others experiences. I will be moving to the 30 cal in the future due to all the data Broz has provided on this and other forums.

Without exception, when you decrease case capacity without changing caliber or radically altering case design you end up with a more efficient case. When pushed to equal max pressures using the same components and barrel lengths, the STW will always outpace a 7-300WM by a fairly small margin. It just comes at the price of somewhat decreased barrel life and brass availability.

How about a 6mm-STW Improved?

By the time you got the barrel broke-in and your load development done, it would be time to swap barrels...

Indeed. One of us hopeless hobbyists with deeper pockets than myself needs to develop a precision barrel with a carbon fiber shell and a Haynes 214 or 230 liner. Then we'll be able to use and abuse the overbore wildcats. We'd need some slower double-base powders, too.

Or, maybe it's easier to stick with the efficiency of a straight-walled case and use a fin-stabilized discarding sabot type of design. A miniaturized version of the 120mm APFSDS munitions used by the Abrams tank. That'll get to an elk way out there. Or a Taliban fighter.

Still waiting to hear about the 195s and how they're doing as well, but it sounds like the 300 Norma is going to be tough to beat with 230s going 2900+.

Sorry guys, thought I had replied to the thread! I ended up shooting 69.5 gr of R26 in Bertram brass for 3030 fps, the reamer is set up for the 195's and has a COAL of 3.800 base to tip. This is right at the top but gave decent brass life and excellent accuracy.

A few years back I sat back to back, left/right handed at a long range match with a guy using one with a break....I had a set of inner ear the orangevalve kind, my muffs were stuffed full off those little orange squishy ones and then my muffs over top.... I've sat next to every cartridge know or at least used in matches and never heard anything like it before..it was the loudest and most miserable time I ever spent at any match, my ears rang for two years before it finally fadded, I have no idea how this guy could shoot this, I've hated the name 7mm/300 mag ever since..
