Was just curious what kind of velocities you guys were getting with 140gr. pills. Loaded 143gr.ELDs with 66 grain s of RL-25 and shot 3340 fps. Thought that was pretty darn good!

How long is your barrel? I am shooting 130 Acubonds with 66.5 grs Retumbo which is a Max load in my rifle that has a tight chamber and a 27 3/4" barrel and get an average of 3350 fps from a number of different sessions over the chrno. If your reading is only a one session reading over the chrno you might want to give it another try just to be sure. Your stated velocity is really high for 140s unless you have a really long barrel.

Anyone shooting a 264wm in a 24" barrel???

I have an extra 24" 6.5 284 barrel that I badly want re- chambered to 264wm.

But I don't want it to be a mistake to have a 24" if all I get is too much muzzle blast and turbulence to be useful. ?????

Thanks.

Keep your 6.5-284 is my suggestion. Better cases, 4 to 8 grs less powder to end up with basically the same velocity. Take the money you will save on the re-chamber job and get loading components and go shoot more. :D In my experience the 264 Win Mag does not start to do it's thing until the barrel reaches 26". Longer is better.

That's getting on the velocity pretty aggressively for a 143g. Brass life will not be good. I measure the case ahead of the belt and use that as the determining factor of pressure, primer "sign" will lead you astray.

I haven't shot the ELD's, but with Berger 140gr I get that velocity from my 28" barrel, a little more with Nosler 140gr Accubonds, a little over 3400fps, right at max pressure!! I'm loading to 65, 000psi with my pressure trace, brass is lasting quite well.

Cheers.

WOW! That's pretty "Speedy"! I'm only getting 3280 fps out of mine with 127 gr LRXs in 24" bbl.

Which powder ?

Retumbo or RE33. Retumbo gives the best accuracy. I go to great lengths to get a proper and consistent packing scheme of powder in my cases. I also have a custom throated rifle, it is quite long. My COL runs 3.6" with most bullets.

Cheers.

I'm curious to what brand of brass everybody is using. I've had 1-2 firings in my stuff and the primer pockets aren't super tight any more. I'm using Norma brass and shooting 140 A-max @ 3175fps w/ 4831SC (215M primer). 26" tube on a Ruger m77. Retumbo and H1000 didn't have the accuracy I wanted. You guys are shooting a lot faster with seemingly better brass life. I'm wondering if it is the difference in brass or difference in powders. I know that velocity doesn't always mean pressure, but 200fps ain't no free lunch. Ill be trying the 143 ELDx in the coming weeks, so I've been sniffing around a bit
