Pierce Engineering in Lansing, Michigan (not to be confused with Piercision Rifles) also builds a full titanium receiver (even bolt handle) based on a Based on Remington 700 action. I know I own one. John has been building them for a long time. First class operation all the way IMO.
I had a chance to 'heft' John's F/TR personal stick a few months ago. Very nice.

I have built a couple ultra light weight rifles with Pierce titanium actions for the purpose of being light weight. At the time they were the only option for titanium I could find. If you are not building a lightweight rifle I would stick to the stainless custom actions. Titanium is very prone to wear and galling.

Does John use a titanium action in his F/tr gun?
From what I have read he uses titanium,so does Bryan Litz and Eric Stecker all built by John pierce.

Another vote for Lone Peak. Bigngreen is building me a new rifle using one. Talked last night and he is impressed with the action. In his words he thought it was better than the Pierce. In about a month I'll give you my opinion and we'll see how she shoots. Bruce

Just received my long action a week ago. Well machined, great fit & finish.
Cycles smooth, nicely ceracoated. I have the New lightened Titanium version. It is very light. 16 ounces. Has 4- 8-40 threaded scope mount locations as well as 2 pinned locations for the mounts as well as a pinned Ti recoil lug. Mine has the "New" nicely fluted Titanium bolt, one of the first. Also added their new mid sized teardrop alum.bolt knob, on the swept back ti handle. It will be used on my current 7mm build.
Dealt with Jim Nordhof at Pierce. Very nice & informative person. Answered all my questions, by phone & by email. Great buying experience. Quality product, & customer service.
Already saving up for another one.

Prone to wear and galling during gunsmith's work, or during the owner's use of the completed rifle? Or both.

Nothing different to the gunsmith. It only wears from use from the user. It takes awhile and for the average hunter they should last for generations. Then there are the guys that shoots hundreds of rounds a year or are constantly changing scopes or taking them out of the stock. The threads are not as tough as regular actions. Those are the guys that would be better served with a chromoly or stainless action.
