New 700 Long Range Questions

Hello everyone, I've ordered a 700 Long Range in 25-06 and was wondering what kind of modifications I can be expecting to make to get the most accuracy out of it ? Most my hunting is done in food plots and cut cornfields at 200/400 yds. What kind of accuracy is everyone getting in 25-06 with the Long Range model ? Thanks

I don't have a LR model, but I have a fully worked-over and blueprinted semi-custom Sendero SF .25-06 AI 40º

At the minimum, I would recommend (just to ensure you have all bases covered) bedding, floating, and aftermarket trigger.

It you want to fully eliminate all chances of inaccuracy (short of replacing the factory barrel), then also having the action blueprinted, headspacing checked (and if need-be corrected), and the bore hand-lapped. If you go this route, and are an experienced handloader, I would recommend having the chamber opened up to .25-06 AI 40º while the smith has the rifle apart.

I sat my brothers up for him last year before deer season. The only modifications I made were 1) dropped a Timney 512 in it 2) bedded the action with devcon. I settled on 115 gr Berger VLD, Retumbo, Fed 210m, and Hornady brass after load development. If I remember correctly it was running at 3050 fps. Here is a pic of the last three shot group I shot with it. Group is bottom left of center. I then had him resight it in for him. Hope this helps. He was hitting golf balls consistently at 300 yrds.

Great shooting ! A trigger and bedding job won't be a problem . I've reloaded for years and look forward to working up some loads when my rifle arrives . I appreciate the responses !

No problem. The only bad thing about it was, I spend the time to set it up for him and the ***hole shoots the big one leaving me nothing. Guess that's what big brothers do. He shot it at 443 yrds with an 8 mph cross wind. It didn't take a step just dropped. Lungs were complete soup.

just stuff it with some decent hand-loads and shoot it. The only mod my 300rum rem 700lr has had was to mill the extractor rivet a bit as there was a clearance issue using fired brass.... I'm still playing with the rifle but she is in the .5 to .6 moa range with one load so far. I want to work up the 200 eld-x with it, but rl33 isn't working as well when colder, so to something else it is.
My brother's m700 lr in 300rum is shooting 1/2 moa with zero mods...

Think I'll try some reloads in it and see where I'm at to start with, then if the trigger is as bad as some say I'll switch it out . Hope to have as good results as others on here . I've owned two other 25-06 rifles in standard weight barrels with not so good results !

Glad to hear his results with the Berger. That's the bullet I'm using in my Browning 25-06. Haven't managed to put one through an animal yet.

I hope you finally got the rifle you've been after. I've owned several 25-06's as well. Some shot great, some decent and only one was unacceptable by my standards. It's, in my opinion, one of the best choices for open country deer there is. I think your Remington will do you proud, hopefully without any or a lot of work.

The chamber wasn't square with the bore. Two weeks later they had it back to me. They replaced the barrel. Now I couldn't ask for a better shooting factory rifle. It regularly shots 1/2 moa groups at 200 yards. Only mods I made was bedding and timney 512.

Appreciate your feedback VERY MUCH ! Hope my Longer Range shoots as well as yours . I live in South West Virginia . I hear from some on here that Remington is not very easy to deal with when it comes to returning a gun that doesn't shoot up to par. Sounds like you had a positive experience with them ! This happened to a couple friends last year but they got rid of theirs when it came back because they didn't want to deal with it. Don't remember what the corrective action(s) though.

I thought I might of looked at a mesurment wrong when I started loading for that gun. I went back to check everything I noticed that the lands only made marks on one side of the bullet when I was doing the sharpie trick. That's when I knew it wasn't right and took it to the local smith. I know I'll be checking all the way around the bullet for positive marks from now on.
