What short action would you use for big game

Curious as to what short action caliber you would use for moose and black bear for ranges less then 600 yards. I normally shoot a 270. Win through to 300. Win mag but looking at maybe doing a short action, lighter weight build for moose hunting.

I would build a 300 WSM on a 700 short action with a Wyatt's mag box so you can seat bullets out to 2.990". I would use the Berger 180gr Elite Hunter for long range shots and a 180-200gr controlled expansion bullet for shots under 300 yards.

what would you use for feeding? Wyatts mag as well for seating depth? I was told the wsm's should be on long actions but can't find how reliably feed them

Pac-Nor burnt to the ground last week. They will probably not recover.

Choice 2. 358 Winchester 225 grain bullet

Currently running a 6.5 PRC on a big horn origin and very happy with it. With 160 round noses or maybe some copper solids I believe it would do fine for moose. That being said, if building from scratch specifically for moose, 300 WSM or maybe 338 RCM would be worth considering.

I own 2 338 RCMs I know it is probably a dead cart. But it impresses me almost every time I pull the trigger.

Another vote for the 300 WSM.
Savages have pretty roomy DBM magazines for their short actions. I load the 208 AMax to 3.015 in mine. You can get a 5 round magazine for DarkEagle customs that extends the factory Savage DBM and holds 5 rounds. They are awesome.
Savage would be good for any of the WSMs or PRC.

Big fan of the 7 SAUM. Currently have one running Berger 175 Elite Hunters at 2940 fps out of a 26" Bartlien using H4831SC. It was built on a long action because I already had it but COAL is under 3". I'm thinking about a second with a 20" barrel.

My 7 SAUM is a short Ti action...22 in proof barrel it is under 8.5 lb loaded and scoped...
