One is basically a one off hand made scope, the other is about as cheap as it gets.
Would you elaborate on what failed with the leupold and which line it was, vx3, vx5, vx6, etc?
And how does clarity in low light, clarity when there is mirage, overall glass clarity through the magnification range compare?
Lastly for anyone with experience with March what would be your choice for a hunting scope that gives wide view at close range but good magnification for longer shots say to 1000yds? I really like my vx6 3-18 for this role but wouldn't mind some extra power at the top end if it is usable. Would be nice to not need the big spotting scope every hunting trip to determine if an animal is worth pursuing.

Id pick the March for ergo.Great dial ,size and weight.I have a early one ,the optics in mine are not equal to my Mark 5,5x25x56,which is a big scope.I can see the barbs on fence 440 yrds at my property.I cant thru my 3-24x52 F1 March.Which looks same in eve as a Swarovski,and a 5x20 SS.Also at long range the parallax is picky on March and has to be tuned in just right, and I use it to judge game at distance.I would like to see a newer one to compare as other say they dont have this.But you have to send in and I dont like breaking down my hunting set up.

Your not alone. I am content to leave well enough alone once something is dialed in. I have not experienced messing up a good thing to try and make it better, but not succeeding. At this point in my life, I don't have the time or $ to gamble with playing around like that.
If I had an "extra" laying around for a "project" with $ to spare, then I would mess around.

I have had several go down that either happened to me, or witnessed from others. Some, right out of the box.
Vari-XIII, VX5, VX6, Mk 5, and Mk 6.
Fail to hold zero, return to zero, track, etc.
March FX 4.5-28×52WA HM FFP
March F 3-24×52 FFP
March F 2.5-25×52 SFP
With mirage, NOTHING is going to cut through it. Not Tangent Theta, ZCO, S&B, Swaro, Zeiss, etc. Lesser magnification APPEARS to help, but it really only lessens the view of mirage...and the target. It is still present jist as much.
