So I was out shooting today and after about the 12th round, my case got stuck. I have about 400 rounds down this tube and have always used RWS brass. The only difference was this brass that I was shooting today was brand new. My rifle was built buy Kevin at Montour County Rifles and he said he doesn't turn a tight chamber.

So this was how I preped the cases, and have always done it this way without problems. Neck sized, used expander mandril to open the mouth, primed and seated the bullets. There were no swipes on the brass, primers were a little flat. All of the Virginia brass headspaced below what I bump it. Plus, same load as I have always used.

I was able to get the case out with a wooden dowl and rubber mallet. The wierd thing is all of the OD measurements of the stuck case match up to my other spent cases. The only noticeable different was the stuck case had a cratered primer but no swipe.

So long story short, has anyone else had a RWS case get stuck before?

78.0gr of H1000, 190gr Berger Hunting VLD .010 off the lands, and Fed Lg Rifle Mag Match primer. Wierd thing was when I went to lift the bolt, there was not a lot of resistance. It was almost like the case had already jumped out of the bolt.

This is a slightly compressed load.

I have not loaded 190's for years, but I can tell you a 180 in a 7mm-300 in RWS brass would be over pressure and so would a 210 in a 300 win by about 3 or 4 grains. We can hardly even get the RWS brass over 73 or 74 gr with out pressure. RWS always comes in 3 or 4 gr below WW, RP , Norma or some other Win Mag brass due to its lower case volume.

A couple other things. The factory Rem 700 extractors are not great. most will fail if they need a little extra d pull.

Any dirt or debris on a case could cause this as well.

I'll throw this in too. When I first got my rifle back I did a max charge test on H1000 and RE22. Once I got a swipe I backed off 1.5 gr and called that my max charge. This was done around 89 degrees. Then I used 10% less for my starting charge. 78.0gr wound up being my most accurate load.

I have never asked or looked around, is this a hot load????? The brass isn't tellig me it is.

Well chit. I should probably redo my test loads again.

If this is new brass, do a simple check, weigh one empty case each from the old and new lot, fill with water and weigh again, whatever the difference is in grains of water will tell if one has more/less capacity than the other. This difference, if any, could be causing your issue.

Cheers.
