Stevens 200

Hi guys,

Jerry just mentioned the Stevens 200 in another post. It has been stated that it is the same gun as the Savage, just without the accutrigger. I am not calling Jerry a liar, I just want to try and get some confirmation on this.

Does anyone know? It seems reasonable. Does anyone have one?

I am going with .308 (Gun must #1-Be accurate #2-Hunt deer #3-Reasonable cost to shoot #4-Reasonable purchase cost, and .223 won't help with deer). I had about decided on the Savage, but if this is basically the same gun, just cheaper, then I can live with the blue barrel instead of stainless if it saves me upwards of 1/2 the MSRP (we'll see the real life difference).

I'd really appreciate ANY insights into this.

Yep, same gun. Stevens has been owned by savage for many years now, and the folks at savage wanted to split the products up... kinda like a GMC pickup vs a Chevrolet pickup sort of thing.

Ok,

So we know the Stevens and the Savage are the same. The next problem is how that barrel will perform as opposed to the heavy barrels that are on guns like the Savage 10FP.

Also, should I just get the Stevens in a 300Win Mag, and then look for a .308 barrel? That way I have both? But then what do I do for the clip and the action? I obviously have alot of research to do.

To change from 300 mag to 308 you will have to change the barrel the bolt head and the magazine.

Yep they are built from Savage they just the old standard Savage 110 modles.

I have owned a few of them in .300 WM,25-06 and curently have one bounching in my pick-up in .223 for yotes.They are plain jane no frills guns but the can shoot very well.

How you gonna make a 308 magazine stick in a 300win action?

A CF long action mag should feed the 308 just fine.
