anyone shorten a Christinson C.F. Barrel? Have a 24" want to cut back to 20" . Plan on making 1\2-28 to 5/8-24 cap. Any input would be appreciated before I start. Thanks

Couldn't a good milling gunsmith cut off the carbon and retread the barrel for a thread protector or break?...then the carbon would be held in place by the thread protector?.....

Would not the threaded end cap I would make be termination point.

I have already done turned down barrel and used epoxied C.F. tube with threaded cap. The factory barrel I used shot same as before this test.

Just enough to shorten the barrel to a well balanced rifle....right now it's way to muzzle heavy....no muzzle break...65284....
26" sendero proof carbon...on a liteweight stock..standard l/a receiver...liteweight scope....
If it were a car would it make a big difference to trim some back and reset the threaded muzzle....

It would be easier to just sell what you have and get a 20-inch barrel if that's what u want, it comes already threaded, I just got one a month ago they are hard to find, haven't shot it yet but it's a beauty.

Essentially that's how abs barrels used to do it back in the old days before proof research bought them.
Thank you sir......diesnt sound so disastrous as some make it out to be....
I have 500+ rounds thru my barrel but had the chamber recut because it was ruining brass within 3 loads..lapua brass...not cheap...
Now if I can talk my Smith into cutting it down I think I'd really like the lighter weight rifle....

Here is how shortening CF barrel turned out, but proof will be how this affected IT' S shooting once put rifle back together. FIRST pic is parting off barrel. Here I went slow to not heat barrel and CF. I used sharp HSS tool bits. SECOND pic is parted off view this one had .580" diameter barrel so I threaded 1/2-28 for 5/8-24 muzzle cap. THIRD pi c is final job. Hopefully it will shoot as well as before, just now 4" shorter. The CF is messy and required..020 cuts or would start becoming stringy.
