O.M.G.!
Sooo much written both agreeing and disagreeing with the OP that just about whatever "I" add will be moot.
Do I agree with the OP?
Yes.
Do I DISagree with the OP?
YES!
But as others have opined, variety is the spice of life and being a "spicey" critter mahself, well, gimme VA-RI-IT-TEEE!
Now can I afford all that I'd LIKE or desire to own? Oh, HELL NO!
I'd have gone broke if I bought or had made every gun/caliber I coveted over my seven decades I've trampled this planet and there is only so much square footage in my modest home with which to fill with gun safes and still be able to have room for a couch, TV, dining table and bed and chest of drawers for, well, my drawers.
So we compromise. Or at least "I" do.
Besides just HOW many guns can you shoot at any given time anyway?
Now that's not to say that I don't (or didn't) take at LEAST two rifles to the field with me during hunting season. One as primary for the game at hand and one (or another) as backup in case i took a spill down a mountainside and the rifle also took a tumble.
Yeah, sure, I could try to see if the scope had been knocked about during its tumble but I absolutely ABHOR hearing people target shooting during hunting season in areas that are not ranges and cause the game to become spooked. What 'Tards they tend to be IMHO.
But I digress.
I really, REALLY want a 6.5 CM and something like the newish ARC and, well, a LOT of others as well but I have to be honest with myself in this late stage in life.
I have FAR FEWER sunrises ahead of me than I've enjoyed so far and I have no one to leave my collection to when they discovered I didn't wake up some day so WHY buy all that stuff anyway?
And when they open my shop and find all my reloading supplies, and a BUTT-LOAD of primers and powder, their jaws will drop and the suspension on their truck will suffer.
What I WISH I had was a lot of friends who DID own those guns who would let me go to the range with them on occasion to let me shoot their toys.
In exchange I'd let them shoot some of MY Big Bangers like my .50BMG. They just have to help me load it up 'cuz I just about can't do it by myself anymore. Sigh.
Who knows? Maybe they'll get lucky and I'll give 'em a gun.
Like I did a new friend who helped me out when I had septic tank troubles.
I paid for materials and time (by selling a gun and extras...my savings is gone...thank you Bernie Madoff. NOT!!) and he went out of his way to come over within a few days. I exchange I gave him an older Remington 700 in .308 that was a "one-holer" with 5 shots at 100 yards with my tuned load.
It would take him several months to save to have a rifle built that shoots so good. But he did me a good turn at a time I was in crisis (and being disabled and unable to do the work myself) I did HIM a good turn.
Again I digress.
So all y'all Young 'Uns build/buy WTH you want and can afford (DON'T **** off your Lady and bust the household budget. You'll end up on the couch for God knows HOW long! Ask me how "I" know) and have fun.
And don't let Fuddy Duds like the OP tell you otherwise.
And if you are in the neighborhood, drag an Old Fart out to the range if you can.
You might learn something or get to shoot something you otherwise may not have an opportunity to.
And who knows? One day you might end up with a case filled with a Boolit Launcher you like for free.
It's nice to be nice some times.
That's all for now so I'm...
