Thanks for the link! I did find individual reviews. I thought maybe it was a comparison of a number of scope brands in one review! I'll scan the individual reviews and find the Leupold scopes. Thanks for clearing this up for me!

Leupold has a long history of failed zero's , is this new for most everyone on here?... that's why NF took off with their NXS series

I was burned thrice by leupold the last couple years. Just like vortex, leupolds have a great warranty and customer service…that you will likely be using! But components and time frustrations are expensive. Admittedly im hard on stuff though with a lot of backpacking and moto hunts. NightForce has solved all of my issues thus far. Just wish they would lock their turrets and cap their windage. For gods sake NF!! Locks and caps please

The Night Force Video was really excellent. A true torture test ! I was Impressed they would shoot it twice and hammer nail with it. I own about 12 or 13 Leupold Scopes and two Sightrons, I think I need a at Leat One Night Force Scope. I will draw the line at Freezing it, as that application is usually reserved for Vodka.

I have run tests similar to that of the OP, pitting various brands of scopes against each other. Although the optical quality of the SWFA scopes I have is not on par with some very expensive scopes I have used, they frequently post the best groups of all, and they have never broken down. They are the ones I turn to whenever I absolutely, positively need a scope that will not fail.

Rugged reliability simply has no equal, never had any of my SWFA's puke on me. All of my main hunting rigs wear a 6x MQ… 6x for utility killing, 10x is for fun for my use…

Update. They said a lense in the erector assembly was loose. Waiting to get it back. In retrospect I think that I bought this scope second hand and have used it on four different rifles.

Probable the reason why somebody else let it go. I had a problem years ago with a a luepold scope. It wouldn't hold it's zero. Sent it in and they fixed it No charge. At the same time I had traget adjustment placed on it at the same time. Cost wasn't much. Never had a problem with again. I have had luepold hold there zero for years.
Placing another scope to see what does should have been the first thing do due.
The other is I have had scopes that sat for years that they wouldn't adjust. Never had a luepold that wouldn't adjust

I for one have been very fortunate with Leupold, I bought my first one, a vx3 6.5-20x40 target scope to put on a Remington 541-t at age 17, I saved it seemed like forever for that setup working part time jobs & mowing grass to earn money. Going squirrel hunting one evening in a hurry put sling on gun walking out to car, the sling came undone gun fell off my shoulder landed square on the elevation turret, the main tube looked like a rainbow, totally devastated I called leupold told them exactly what happened & asked if it would be cheaper to have them repair it or just start saving for another one? They said send it out with a note stating what happened they would look at it, so some time goes by didn't hear anything then my scope shows up on front porch with a note stating the main tube was replaced at no charge! So 37 years & 23 leupolds later I have yet to have an issue with a leupold that was the companies fault, I shoot smallbore & highpower silhouette I have several 6.5-20 that were boosted to 18-40 by the late Dick Thomas of Premiere Reticle, that I'm constantly cranking on during a match not a single issue. I'm by no means trying to discount other people's experiences I can understand how frustrating it can be to plunk down a large sum of money for something and it not to be what it should be. Just wanted to share my experience

When ever you fell getting rid of some Leupold premier please let me know.

X10, me too, Nightforce has solved all my potential problems, so far and I am or was very hard on them!

I agree with wieserbucks, go get a NF scope ! You can find like new ones on this web site. They don't have ANY issues! A first rate company who makes well thought out, quality optics. I used to think Leupolds were good, but then their prices went way up and quality down. In my many, many years of using different brand scopes ; Nightforce is now my go to brand for quality, variety and price. They have a fine customer service/repair group, but you won't need them. Do yourself a big favor, get a Nightforce scope.

I like night force the issue I have is the only scope the make with a duplex reticle under a 50mm bell is way to short of a tube for proper eye relief

Here is what I have heard is they are trying to make the scopes lighter so more plastic parts and thinner tubes . We all know what plastic parts mean . Look how long an old Maytag was used to last (all steal parts). We have not helped with wanting lighter scopes there is only one way to reduce weight thinner parts , plastic parts

Not entirely, those parts can be made from higher strength AL alloys to reduce the metal volume and therefor the mass of the part(s). They can also be made from other metals like Magnesium and Titanium. There are also high strength copper based and nickel based alloys that could possibly be used.

"Plastic" is so generic these days. Could mean anything from the now roughly 100 years old brittle Bakelite to the latest carbon-fiber filled space age polymer.

It comes down to how informed or how much research the design team puts into the materials for the design of the scope parts.
