The LTR in .308 has a 20" heavy fluted barrel so while heavy, it can do double-duty as a sniper rifle (500 yards) and a hunting rifle (from stands mostly).

I'm looking for a scope ~$1K range
- 1st focal plane
- illum reticle
- mil dot or hash marks for range estimation
- 30 mm tube
- objective lens <44 mm (it's a small rifle)

Any recommendations?

The LTR is an awesome rifle and 500 yards is not its limit by any means. I think in your price range the Vortex Viper, HS or PST line would good. The HS isn't much of an increase over the viper but the PST line is. If you don't need illumination, I would say get a Super Sniper from SWFA. 3-9 is $600 and 3-15 is $700.

500 yards is a drop in the bucket for a 20" .308 Win... I had one 20" from lug to crown and it would shoot 1K like it was nothing. Granted, it has been trued by my smith, but still 500 is a short-shot.

I would look into the Zeiss Conquest 6.5-20x50 with MilDot reticle & target turrets. or Vortex Viper HSLR FFP 6-25x50 would be a good scope.

Both of those have a larger than desired OBJ lens.

I have a 7MAG Remington 700, I bought a BURRIS E1-4.5X14-42 it is great! it has been in
South Dakota it is so good I bought another two from CABELA'S for $340.00 its worth
every dollar, you don't need to spend a grand for a good scope look at the NIKONS
there are some great scopes that wont break the bank. the ZEISS CONQUEST oh man
they make some great scopes and I have never heard a bad work on them.
Loupold I would say they are always on the top of the list, my list, others may have there sweet heart optics But a scope is a marage, if it breaks down on your first ELK hunt or Moose,Caribou,
what are youu gona do? I snuck a BURRIS E1 4.5X14-42 to my best friend in Canada and he went ape $#!t the first hour. after we lapped the scope rings shooting at 300 he started bouncing back end of his rifle on a log that was washed up on the shore of lake Superior
he did this for 5 minuits and fired at his target at 4.5 and 14 and never lost the center mass of the target. I think he loves me.
What ever NIKON or ZEISS and LOUPOLD make some great optics and for a scope you can beat the hell out of them and they will work as good as any $1000.00 scope.
