Looking at purchasing a BFR rifle caliber pistol and I am leaning towards the 45-70 chambering. I am looking for advice/feedback on choosing a barrel length. The two options are 7.5" or 10.5". Any advice would be appreciated.
I'm leaning towards one with the Bisley grips like my old Ruger Super Blackhawk was fitted with. Sorry I ever sold it.Definitely 10.5. You're going to need the weight with 45-70. I have a 14" 7mm08 that is a tack driver... sub moa, but I'm not sure if I would want it in 45-70.
The reading I've done on this caliber indicates that the recoil is not that severe because it's a straight case and one doesn't shoot anything heavier than a 300grain bulletI'm leaning towards one with the Bisley grips like my old Ruger Super Blackhawk was fitted with. Sorry I ever sold it.
I'll look at both calibers and compare them. I find the 45-70 appealing because I'm also thinking of buying a CVA single shot rifle in the same caliber.I’d take a look at the S&W XVR .460... better performance than the .45-70 and .500 S&W, and ammo tailored more towards max performance in the pistol-length barrels.
Just a thought.
