Some of us are driven by more than bc. These 'drivers' include bullet availability, expansion uncertainties with available bullets and to a more limited extent, bc.
Repointing appears to be trimming the meplat a bit then repointing with a die of some sort. My personal situation drives no need for repointing. I use Bergers exclusively in 277 and 338 cals and don't feel the need to repoint.
However...... in the 375 realm its a whole 'nother story. At least for me.
For some reason I get the idea that the only available projectiles for an extreme mag of this cal are Sierra 350 SMKs (as my brain whispers the question...."where's Berger on this....)
As the sliced SMK in a below pic shows repointing due to jacket thickness in the ogive doesn't make much difference in terminal performance. My personal testing validates this statement. Shoot a log, tree, rock, sand backstop and expansion is great. Shoot media and it's darn iffy.
Retipping vs repointing gives better results, in my case. Terminal performance becomes very consistent and can be regulated to some extent by changing angles on the base of the tip.
No loss of bullet weight occurs. In fact the 350 ends up close to 353 grains.
I would suppose bc increases somewhat due to increased overall length and nearly identical weight.
Add the better expansion performance in media, haven't harvested anything with it yet....
With +s of no loss of accuracy and more consistent terminal performance, while bc doesn't 'appear' to be decreased its hopefully a win/win and a necessity until repointing the SMKs becomes obsolete with Berger's release of their 375 cal offering. (subtle hint.... gun) )
