Rem 700 extractor problems

every place I know to look seems to be out of the magnum riveted extractor. I have only seen the snap in on standard bolt faces.

I have a few with the mini m16 and they are pretty nice

I'd consider having longrifles.com install you an M16 style once the factory goes out.

LRI in Sturgis, SD does them for 220.00 at the same time have them install a new HD ejector spring, good people to work with

Get a small base resizing die for your 300. I had the same issue after a couple of firings. RUM's are very hard on brass. The brass expands near the base quite a bit, and loses it's spring back. Get's real sticky!

Call Pacific Tool and Gauge 541-826-5808 They have them in stock, cost was 18.95. You might want to check your bolt, some of the newer 700's did not use the riveted extractor. You will need the correct one. The Brownell's rivet tool is a great help in installing these rivets. Highly recommend it. Also need a small ball peen hammer, or round of the end of a punch, to peen the rivet. The tool will come with instructions on use.

They do.

I had some of the training cadre from the APM at Quantico at a match I ran recently. In discussions with one or two of them, they compete with custom actions (that definitely don't use remmy extractors) on their own guns. We were shooting carbines and handguns under NODs at that event, but being a rifle junkie, bolt guns naturally came up.

One of my mentors in building and shooting the 14s was the former NCOIC of the RTE/PWS. His take, the bolt properly prepared and not shooting potentially problematic handloads, he did not see any need to replace the 700 extractors. They even retained, but modified, the standard 700 recoil lugs or sourced pieces to their spec. No need for 0.250 or thicker lugs.

I have a Remington 700 left hand in .300 RUM, this weekend it would not extract shot cases from the chamber. It's an older rifle on its 3rd or 4th barrel. When I put the gun away last time I shot it it was fine. My question s are is there a difference in extractors from right to left hand bolts? And is this a fixable thing by the common man or take it to a smith to be changer out? If they are a over the counter part to purchase, where would a guy look? I tried Midwayusa.com and Brownells.

Every 700 Action I have I had an M16 extractor put on. The common cost of having a Gunsmith do this is around $200.

I own three LH Remington 700s in .30-'06, .243 Winchester and .22-250 Remington. I have never had an extraction problem with any of them, through thousands of rounds through the '06, and hundreds through the .243 and .22-250. I doubt there is any difference in the manufacture or assembly process for extractors in RH or LH bolts.
You mention that you are on your 3rd or 4th barrel. Tells me the rifle has been shot a lot. Could your loads be swelling in the chamber? Have you performed a good scrubbing on the chamber? Have you disassembled the bolt and flushed all the parts with lighter fluid? Beyond this, I have to admit I dont know. Good luck with your issue!

Agreed on the sup3r thick lugs. But I think the 700 lug design is an obsolete holdover anyway. One of my 9 700s, I deleted the lug and welded in a solid block of 4340 into the receiver bottom (instead of gluing in a Score High plate like most do). Milled 3/8"x3/8" slots (three of them) I to that block and bedded it into the stock. It was a varmint gun and I was not worried about keeping it a repeater. My current inventory are all CRF/ME actions except for one rebranded Defiance (WAR Rifles Warlord) that I can't bring myself to sell due to knowing the guys who built it and shooting with them previously.

More relevant than the above musings: the Mk13s I've seen from Quantico had aftermarket extractors in them. Ive heard that some of the guns have remmy extractors and some aftermarket. Im guessing that depended on if the bolt was originally a .473 (legacy M24 actions sourc3d from the Army) or .532. MK13s were built at multiple locations, so that may also factor in.

The current guns, MK22s, are a completely different design and thus aren't really fair to include in the discussion.

(MK22s have already had some issues, though. I've held three that cracked the receivers in my own hands. Then there are the reports from guys in SF, as well as now some videos circulating on YouTube, of the guns experiencing uncommanded discharge.)
