Recommendations for H4831SC

4831 is as many have stated, totally not suitable for the .223 or the 22-250. Why waste your time trying to make something that is not the right fit work?
You realize not all 22-250 are slow twist? Tikka and bergara both make 1:8, 1:9 that are very capable at propelling 77 grain Bullets not to mention the dozens of barrel makers who would happily spin one up for you. Once you get to those bullet weights h4831sc is a totally appropriate powder to propel those projectile's not to mention rhe comments on this very thread of people using h4831 with 50-55 gr Bullets. Blanket statements like yours are not suitable regardless of how many parrots squawk them

We saw this post for a while now and it is posted for H4831SC in smaller calibers would like to know what others think about larger calibers. We have H-4895, Varget & CFE-223 for our .204, 223s. In our 6MM we use Varget, H-4350.

We also have H-4350, H1000, Hybrid 100V, Retumbo, RL-26.
I the beginning of 2021 we were lucky to pick up 1/2 dozen 1 pounders on H4831SC and had several members wanting it from us ASAP. Sold all to one Army member on a shooting team. He wanted for I think a 300 Win mag. Anyway sold it for what we paid.

We recently picked up several Jugs of H-4831SC (because we could) and was thinking about possibly using in 6.5 calibers. - 6.5X284.
Now we have a bit of this powder to play with.
What are most people using H-4831SC for???

Thanks

H4831 is my go to in 6mm Rem, 270, 280, 280AI, 3006, 300WM and 338WM. Your 6.5 284 should like it as it's just another 6.5 06. Might be a bit slow in the 6.5 Creedmoor which is just another 6.5x55 Swede in a different form when loaded to factory pressure. I have used it in the Swift and it does ok, I think 46 behind a 55 grain bullet runs in the 3600 range. I've pretty much switched to Hodgdon for rifle and kinda glad I did. It always works and as of now there is NOTHING else available in a 250 mile radius except some VV which I have never used.

If you have a 30-06, 4831 is one of the Best powders for it

I use it (because it's what we have and what we could buy so we got 8lbs of it at the time) for the .270 AI, the 30-06 (compressed load) and the 300 WinMag. I like 4350 for the .270AI and the 30-06, find it a good powder for the 300 WinMag. I have been using 4831 for many years, like when it came in one-pound waxed bags for $.50 a pound, as in 50 cents a pound. Although it is a compressed load for the 06 (as in tapping the outside of the case), have always been capable of finding a good load with the 180 grain bullets.

Looking for anyone with experience with loading H4831SC in small calibers, such as the .223 and .22-250. I have had good success with a Varget load and 55 gr. NBTs or Hornady VMax, but have a limited supply of Varget, and a lot more available H4831SC. I shoot 55 gr. loads almost exclusively, because that is what the rifles shoot the best.
Also, any suggestions on the use of Winchester 760 would be helpful, as the only thing I am using that powder for now is a load for .25-06 with 115 gr. NBTs. Again, what the rifle shoots well.
Any suggestions would be gratefully appreciated.

I had a ruger number 1 in 22-250 that was very finicky, however with a full case H4831 and a 60 gr Nosler solid base that gun became a real tack driver, so I say load the case full and shoot it, it may be just the load you are looking for, vand if it doesn't shoot well then try the Win 760 in it, then try the 4831 in the 25 06, 53 to 54 grs should get you around 3200 fps with that ballistic tip, some books actually call for a little more but two family owned guns called it quits at 54, I don't recall the powder charge in the 22 250, the case was full and I had to use a drop tube i think I was running 42 grs, the velocity was just over 3400 fps, 4831 will not give you maximum velocity but that's not always a bad thing, you can't get enough of that powder into a case to exceed maximum pressures, so load as much as you can get into a case and shoot for accuracy,
