Radial fluting vs. Standard fluting

Question for you smiths out thier , what is the advantage of having a barrel radial fluted , it seems to me that it would make the barrel a good bit less stiff.

They are vastly superior in barrel heat disapation but you have to be careful with your depth of cut on the flutes. Limited to heavier contoured barrels.

Shawn C has done this with some very good results, hopefully he will respond here with his findings.

PGW does helical fluting. That is a good compromise.
