Primer Question

Magnum,
How much crush do you recommend for Federal primers?
After the cup and anvil are flush with each other in the bottom of the pocket, .003"-.004" crush is max for Federal primers and, that's all of them, large or small. Beyond this the ignition becomes erratic.
How you do this varies in technique.
You can measure a primer pocket, measure a primer then subtract the 2 measurements. But you need to know what the cup measures, not the anvil. You also need to know the measurement of how far below the case head the cup site prior to any crush measurement.
But what I do is to seat a primer so that the cup and anvil are flush, pop it out, measure it, measure the pocket, determine the amount the flush primer will be below the case head and then add the .003" crush.

Hope this makes sense.

Cheers.

Thanks Magnum, it makes perfect sense.
