I am building my 300 Win Mag loads on Federal Military Match cases. I understand that these cases may be thicker than commercial brands and therefore hold less powder. I have 8 pound of H1000 I was planning to load 208 gr. AMAX's with. Is it worth trying this powder? Can I get enough in the case to get adequate velocity? Or should I go with something a little faster like IMR-7827, H4831, etc. due to the smaller case capacity?

Rifle specs? What is your velocity goal? H1000 is an excellent powder and IIRC, it's Jeff's (BROZ) go to powder for his .300 Win Mag but not for A-Max but rather the 210/215 Berger.

My go to powder for my .300 Win Mag is the H4831SC but for the 190 Berger. As far as the 208 A-Max, the best velocity and group I ever got is off IMR7828SSC.

Having said that, I'd take accuracy over velocity any time.

Its a Remington 5R stainless with 24" barrel. Looking to get enough velocity and accuracy to shoot steel at 1k and game out to about 500 yds.

Keep it simple and load it as your rifle noted on this thread and consider other members' recommendations >>> http://www.longrangehunting.com/forums/f28/powder-208-amax-300-win-164320/http://www.longrangehunting.com/forums/f28/powder-208-amax-300-win-164320/[/QUOTE[/QUOTE]

Since I bought the Remington, I am converting the savage to another caliber. My biggest question/concern was about the Federal Military match brass and H1000? I was thinking the case volume is not as much as commercial brass and that H1000 might not be a good fit?

How did you arrived to that conclusion? Your goal of ...

... is a cake walk for the .300 Win Mag. Not necessarily the same bullet but there are folks here that achieved the right load and shoots them beyond the 1k yard with .308 Win and .30-06. Do a custom search on MontanaMarine's posts.

You have been provided sound advice from previous threads but what you do with it is entirely up to you.

Good luck!

The military brass will work fine. Since the capacity is less than commercial brass, start your load development a couple grains lower with h1000. Look for pressure signs while working up.

Thanks, I appreciate the reply. If anyone has any experience with this brass, please let me know.
