Me and a buddy are getting ready to start reloading for our 280s and I was just wanting to know what type of powder y'all were using and getting good results with. These loads will be used for hunting mainly and we will most likely be using a 140 grain bullet most likely made by nosler. Any help and info is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

H4350 IMR-4350, H4831 IMR-4831, H414/W760, IMR-7828, RE-22. There are more that would work, but that's what I've tried in my .280 Ackley.

I run H4831SC, H1000, and IMR 7828SSC in mine (also an Ackley), but I'm running the heavier Berger 180s. If you are going to drive the lighter 140s, then I suspect you'll get better results from faster powders, like H4350, RL-17 and similar burn rates.

If you are shooting 140-150 gr bullets, get some H4831. Forget about all the other stuff, unless you can't get any H4831.

I have shot 120 Nosler Ballistic Tips, 168 Berger VLD Hunting, and 160 Accubond.

I picked up a box of 100gr Varminter Sierra's, but have yet to shoot them.

I load for two different 280 Rems and I have found that my two favorite powders are RL-17 and RL-19, when I am loading 140 grain bullets. Any powder in the burn rate around H4350 or IMR-4350 should work well with the 140's. When I move up to 160 grainers I look at H4831 or IMR-7828.

The 4350 and the 4831 were what we were leaning towards as it is something that we are able to acquire where we live. Thanks for the input.

I have three .280's that we use in the family and I love the cartridge. Very efficient and great to shoot. In my load workup, I have found for the 140 grain bullets it is hard to beat H4831. But in the 150's I have had the best luck with R-22. It takes a while to find what works for you, and the type of bullets and components will also vary your accuracy/pressure etc. Just have to do some testing, and with what you have been told here, it is a great starting point. Happy Shooting/Hunting!!!!:)

i have loaded for 3 280. 1 remington 700 mountain rifles and 2 t/c encores. i have have very good luck with 140 gr. accubond with 56.6 grs. of reloader 19
